International Women’s Day Celebration –
Connecting Women, Inspiring Futures
Developed from an international declaration in 1910, International Women's Day has grown to become a global day that celebrates the successes of women while reminding us of inequities that still need to be addressed. This annual celebration strives to promote the importance of celebrating women’s accomplishments, contrib
utions and leadership, both locally and globally. On International Women’s Day, the IWD Committee of Oxford County puts in every effort to bring an accessible, free event to women right here in Oxford County. Women and their children are treated to a free hot meal, while enjoying gifts and interactive activities. This event also provides us with the opportunity to highlight the contributions of either a woman or a local group who has made a difference in advancing the status of women within our county. The 2020 event will be a Pancake Brunch held at the Unifor Local 88 union hall (364 Victoria St., Ingersoll N5C 2N4). A number of non-profit agencies work collaboratively to ensure a successful event. Beyond the goal of celebrating women and their contributions, this event provides an opportunity for women to find out more about women and family-centered supports and services in this community. This venue provides social service agencies with an opportunity to meet, greet and interact with the very women and children who benefit from your services. We also invite women artisans to set up a table to share their talent and promote their goods at our artisan market. If you have any questions about the event, or would like to register your agency or your artisan/craft table, please contact Linda Leyten at (519) 425-0952 ext. 102 or Dawn Leroux at (519) 536-3136.
