Two nights, one choir, and an international research collaboration 🎶

Led by Dr. Sarah Platte, Conducting Against the Room brought together researchers from McMaster University, the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland, and the Max Planck Institute for Empirical Aesthetics 🎓

With renowned conductor Prof. Morten Schuldt-Jensen leading a local pop-up choir of GTHA singers, we explored how choral singing is experienced, measuring eye tracking and heart rate from both audience members and performers 💗

The performances also featured a Science Snapshot talk by Dr. Lauren Fink , about the research behind the project 🧠

Huge thank you to our incredible choir, research team, and everyone who came out to be part of it 🙌

Join us for a LIVELab “pop-up” choir live concert and research study! 🎶🧠

Led by Danish conductor Prof. Morten Schuldt-Jensen, this unique performance features music by Gustav Holst, Anton Bruckner, Maurice Duruflé, and renowned Scandinavian composers ✨

Before the concert, Dr. Lauren Fink will give a short talk about how performers and audiences experience choral singing using virtual acoustics and mobile physiological sensors 🧠

You’ll hear incredible music… and can optionally take part in the research shaping how we understand it!

Happening Sunday, April 19th and Monday, April 20th at 7:30pm!
