On June 13th, Take a moment to enjoy the historic Church located at Barton and Smith, built in 1885 originally as St Andrews Presbysterian. Now home to the Iglesia Pentecostal Hispana de Hamilton congregation, it serves as one of the oldest buildings in the area. As a celebration of coming together, you can find places to sit and relax and enjoy some delicious food. Head to the “Ice Cream Social” and grab a “Barton Sundae” with ice-cream from Foundry and featuring toppings from local Barton Businesses- Eldercamp and Barton Lettuce. Grab lunch from or one of the local food vendors and meet your friends at the communal tables to enjoy it together. Or how about a fancy coffee from while you enjoy a sit on the stoop of the church and enjoy a few minutes of people-watching from the oldest stoop in the area!

Celebrating Barton street wouldn’t be complete without a nod to its industrial past and the workers that have been a driving force in the neighbourhood’s history. The junkyard is a place for kids to come and get creative, connect, and make something special out of reclaimed materials. Featuring recycled materials from local Barton businesess, artist-led activities, and the freedom to experiment, kids are encouraged to roll up their sleeves and get to work! Projects include junkbots, 3-d buildings, bike flair, and a music activity. Come say hi to / / who will be running some fun activities all day :) and don’t be afraid to get a *little* dirty 😘 don’t worry parents: we’ll have a few wash stations available!

We’re planning some Barton-focused programming for this years festival ❤️ Nixon Grocery Zone
An homage to a historic business in Barton Village- the grocer at Barton and East Ave! Operating as a grocer from 1901-1969, the location saw many family-owned grocers serving the Barton community. Known around town for being a classic fixture on Barton, even in its current vacant state, from entrepreneurs dreaming up what they’d do with the space, to artists inspired by it’s timeless look- it represents Barton’s history and the possibility of the area. For BASH we imagine what it was like in its heyday with local artists creating installations inspired by it, local farmers and vendors celebrating its food history, and fun activities for the whole family! Can’t wait for you to see it 😘
