Bellies Before Bins helps us make the most of food prepared for events at the Halifax Convention Centre. With support from Second Harvest Deuxième Récolte and local community partners, surplus food can keep moving beyond our kitchen and into the community.

It’s a simple idea with a real impact: good food belongs in bellies, not bins.

Another summer, another inspiring week with The Africadian Empowerment Academy of Nova Scotia at the Halifax Convention Centre 🍴✨

We were proud to welcome this incredible program back to our kitchen, where our culinary team shared their knowledge, creativity, and passion with local youth. This years summer camp was filled with hands-on learning, new flavours, and meaningful connections. It was a reminder that food is about so much more than what's on the plate. It brings people together, creates opportunities, and strengthens community.

Programs like this showcase the power of food to build confidence, foster connection, and inspire future possibilities. Who knows? Some of these young chefs may be joining our team one day 👨‍🍳👩‍🍳 A special thank you to The Africadian Empowerment Academy of Nova Scotia for working with us to help empower the next generation through learning, experience, and community.

IT’S NOT MY FAULT.

So … hi. We’re completely sold out guys! We wanna thank you all for the absolute feral energy that got us this far this fast. We didn't expect it to happen so fast, but WOW.

Just a few FAQs we'll answer here:

Will there be more tickets?: No, on the 19th, we released all tickets for sale at once, and due to capacity and fire regulations, no more tickets can be put on sale. We are fully sold out.

Do you do ticket resales?: No, Hal-Con does not do, or support resale sites or individual resales at higher prices. While we cannot stop those from selling or buying tickets at a higher price, we do not support it. Match Tix on Facebook is the only program we support, as it is not a reseller, but an intermediary that connects sellers with buyers at cost. Please only get your tickets through a safe space like Match Tix, or from someone you actually know. Be safe!

Why don’t you just move to a bigger location?: The Nova Centre is the largest space within the downtown core that allows for driving, walking, transit, etc, is accessible, and has ample places to eat and hotels to stay at.

Why don’t you rent out X/Y/Z?: A LOT goes into the logistics to adding off site spaces, not including if they available to be rented, are accessible, have the space we need, etc.

We promise you, we want Hal-Con to be bigger and better even MORE than you do if that’s even possible, but there’s just so much that has to be worked with, and policies that must be followed to keep it a safe accessible space for all.

What a day! ✨ We're always proud to welcome the Halifax Chamber of Commerce Wonder Women Conference to Halifax Convention Centre and to see our space come alive with so many inspiring women from across Nova Scotia.

This year's event featured thoughtful conversations about leadership, mentorship, and creating positive change in our communities. One of those conversations came from our Senior Vice President, Operations, Genaya Cameron, who shared the story behind Bellies Before Bins, a Halifax Convention Centre initiative that has donated more than 10,000 meals to local community organizations since launching.

Her message resonated throughout the day: progress over perfection.

Thank you to the Halifax Chamber of Commerce for continuing to bring together leaders, changemakers, and community builders each year. We're proud to be part of it and can't wait to welcome everyone back again next year.
