Some traditions feel like joy in motion.

That is why we wanted to share this one from Kenya. Fast paced celebration says something important on its own. It tells you that community life is not only about preserving culture quietly. It is also about energy, movement, and the moments where people gather to mark life together.

That spirit belongs at NB Afro Fest too. We want people here in New Brunswick to see that African cultural traditions can be elegant, powerful, playful, and full of life all at once.



Il y a des traditions qui ressemblent à de la joie en mouvement.

C’est pour ça qu’on voulait partager celle-ci du Kenya. Une célébration au rythme rapide dit déjà quelque chose d’important. Elle montre que la vie communautaire ne consiste pas seulement à préserver la culture dans le calme. Elle vit aussi dans l’énergie, le mouvement, et les moments où les gens se rassemblent pour marquer la vie ensemble.

Et cet esprit a toute sa place à NB Afro Fest. On veut que les gens ici au Nouveau-Brunswick voient que les traditions culturelles africaines peuvent être élégantes, puissantes, ludiques, et pleines de vie en même temps.

Some traditions make you understand a culture through movement before you ever understand it with words.

That is part of why we wanted to share this one from Côte d’Ivoire. Music and dance traditions matter because they show how a community can turn rhythm into identity and performance into something people recognize as their own.

For a festival like NB Afro Fest, that is a big deal. We want people in New Brunswick to feel the range of African cultural life, and that includes the traditions that move fast, carry joy, and stay in people’s memory long after the music stops.



Il y a des traditions qui font comprendre une culture par le mouvement avant même qu’on la comprenne avec des mots.

C’est une partie de pourquoi on voulait partager celle-ci de la Côte d’Ivoire. Les traditions de musique et de danse comptent parce qu’elles montrent comment une communauté peut transformer le rythme en identité et la performance en quelque chose que les gens reconnaissent comme étant à eux.

Pour un festival comme NB Afro Fest, ça compte énormément. On veut que les gens au Nouveau-Brunswick ressentent toute l’étendue de la vie culturelle africaine, y compris les traditions qui bougent vite, portent la joie, et restent dans la mémoire longtemps après que la musique s’arrête.
