Wood Buffalo 2023 Arctic Winter Games The Arctic Winter Games 2023 highlighted the region and its culture through the spirit of sport to an Wood Buffalo, it’s our Time to Shine!

From January 29-February 4, Wood Buffalo will welcome approximately 2,100 athletes, coaches, mission staff and officials from eight contingents for the 2023 Arctic Winter Games (AWG). The AWG are a high-profile Circumpolar sports competition for northern and arctic athletes. The first Games were held in Yellowknife in 1970, with 500 participants from Yukon, NWT, and Alaska. Participants now come f

rom Alaska, Northern Alberta, Yukon, Nunavut, Nunavik, Northwest Territories, Greenland, Finland, and Norway. The Games will be hosted at venues across Wood Buffalo on Treaty 8 Territory, ancestral and traditional land of the Cree, Dene and Métis people. To make this a successful event we anticipate a need for 2,000 volunteers during Games time. VOLUNTEER APPRECITATION NIGHT

Join us for the Volunteer Recognition Event happening TONIGHT (Saturday, Feb 4) from 7-10 p.m. at the Syncrude Sport & Wellness Centre!

All volunteers are welcome for this family friendly event. There will be bouncy castles, prizes, food, wellness/massage opportunities and merchandise sales at heavily discounted prices.

Thank you to everyone volunteer who helped this week. We couldn’t have done it without you!

Tous les bénévoles sont les bienvenus pour cet événement familial.
