Some comforts in hospice care are bigger than they seem.

The warmth of soup on a difficult day. A spoonful of honey in tea. The familiar smell of fresh coffee brewing for a family member staying close by.

These quiet, everyday comforts can help make Margaret’s Place feel a little more like home - for residents and for the people walking alongside them.

That’s what Wishlist Wednesday helps support each week. 💙

🛒 This week’s most-needed items:
🍅 Diced tomatoes
🥣 Vegetable broth
🍯 Honey
☕ K-Cup coffee pods

Donations can be dropped off at Margaret’s Place Hospice reception desk - 170 Ogilvie St., Dundas. If you’re able to include your purchase receipt, we’re happy to provide a charitable tax receipt.

Thank you for helping provide comfort, care, and small moments of familiarity when they matter most. 💙

The Sounds of Spring concert returned to St. Joseph’s Villa, with the award-winning Jazz Band and Chamber Choir from St. Mary Catholic Secondary School once again sharing their musical talent with our residents. 🎶

Back by popular demand, the performance brought residents, students, families, and staff together for an afternoon of live music and community connection.

Following the concert, students spent time visiting with residents - sharing conversations, laughter, and stories across generations. These intergenerational moments continue to be one of the most meaningful parts of this long-standing partnership with St. Mary Catholic Secondary School.

Thank you to the talented students and staff for sharing your time, talent, and joy with our community once again. There is truly no age limit to loving music! 🎶

Our Mother’s Day Tea at St. Joseph’s Villa was a lovely afternoon with chance to slow down and spend time together.

Our Therapeutic Recreation team hosted the event, which included live music, tea, and beautiful homemade cookies baked by students in the Nutrition class at St. Mary Catholic Secondary School. We’re grateful for their support and the time they put into making the day extra special.

There were plenty of conversations shared over tea, familiar songs in the background, and many happy moments shared throughout the afternoon.

To all the mothers, grandmothers and mother figures in our community, we hope today brought moments of connection, reflection and happy memories shared with the people around you.

Helping a loved one access end-of-life care can be an incredibly difficult process. Alongside grief and uncertainty, families often struggle to know where to turn and how to access the right support at the right time. Across St. Joseph’s Health System, hospice and palliative care teams walk alongside families during these moments, offering compassionate, person-centred care grounded in dignity and respect.

The Brasher family’s story reflects how hospice and palliative care can ease that uncertainty and highlights the strength of a coordinated continuum of care. His care began with hospice respite support at Margaret’s Place Hospice, where he received comfort and personalized care. As his illness progressed and his needs changed, his care transitioned to Stedman Community Hospice, allowing his final days to be spent in a setting that reflected his wishes and strong community ties.

While Philip’s care took place in different settings, the focus remained the same: dignity, compassion, and respect for both him and his loved ones. Through guidance and unwavering support, care teams ensured that Philip’s wishes remained at the centre of every decision.

As we recognize National Palliative Care Week, Philip’s story is a powerful reminder that no family has to navigate end-of-life care alone. Across St. Joseph’s Health System, hospice and palliative care teams provide comfort, reassurance, and compassionate support at every stage of the journey.

A heartfelt thank you to Fengate Asset Management for once again joining us on our Campus of Care last week for Louis Serafini Community Day.

Their incredible team of volunteers brought energy, enthusiasm, and a willingness to roll up their sleeves. Thanks to their hard work and sweat equity, we were able enhance the outdoor spaces at Margaret’s Place Hospice and prepare for the upcoming Horticultural Therapy projects being introduced. These spaces are essential to the comfort, well-being, and quality of life of our residents and the many families we serve. Days like this are a powerful reminder of the strength of our growing partnership. It was especially impactful for their team to see the spaces, meet the people, and understand the real-life impact that their hard work, both in and out of the office, supports.

Fengate continues to support the St. Joseph’s Villa Foundation in so many meaningful ways. From multi-year sponsorships of signature events like Holiday Handbags to showing up as a team and putting in the work on the ground. Their combination of leadership, generosity, and hands-on involvement is what truly makes a difference on our Campus of Care.

As we celebrate 5 years of Margaret’s Place Hospice, we are reminded that milestones like this are only possible because of lasting, meaningful community partnerships. Fengate’s leadership and commitment to building stronger communities continues to play an important role in that journey.

Thank you to the entire Fengate team for your hard work and your friendship. We are proud to partner with you!
