In keeping with our monthly honouring our living veterans we would like to highlight Chief Warrant Officer Peter Parker:
Peter Norman Parker was born in Vancouver, BC July 6, 1952 to parents Sherman and Louise (McAnulty) Parker. Both Parents were World War 2 Veterans. In 1957 the family moved to Carrolls Crossing, NB. He attended school in Carrolls Crossing and Doaktown, NB leaving in 1970. He was employed at a local sawmill for the next 2 years.
On April 19, 1972, Peter enrolled in the Canadian Armed Forces and was off to Basic Training at Canadian Forces Base Cornwallis, Nova Scotia, June 10, 1972. On completion of basic training, Private Parker was posted to Canadian Forces School of Administration and Logistics, Borden, Ontario for Basic Administration Clerk Training.
In November 1972, Private Parker was posted back to Canadian Forces Base Cornwallis, Nova Scotia for employment in the Base Orderly Room. While posted in Cornwallis he was deployed on two missions:
-September 1974, to 73 Canadian Service Battalion, Ismalia, Egypt as part of the United Nations Emergency Force II and employed as Maintenance Company Clerk for three months. In November 1974, Private Parker was redeployed to the Golan Company on the Golan Heights, Israel as part of the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force and employed in the Company Orderly Room until repat in March 1975 to Canadian Forces Base Cornwallis, Nova Scotia. Pte Parker was awarded the United Nations Emergency Force II and the United Nations Disengagement Force Medals.
-May to August 1976, Private Parker was deployed to the Montreal Olympics and employed as a VIP Driver. During this deployment he was promoted to the rank of Corporal.
On May 1, 1977, Corporal Parker was posted to Headquarters 4 Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group, Lahr, West Germany. During the next five years he was employed as an Operations Clerk in the Headquarters. He was promoted to Master Corporal and awarded the Special Service Medal with the NATO Bar during this period. Also, during this posting he married Susan Anthony a member of the Canadian Armed Forces and their son Matthew was born.
In July 1982, on promotion to Sergeant, he was posted to 31 Service Battalion, Saint John, NB. For the next three years Sergeant Parker was employed as an Administrative Advisor to a Militia Unit.
On completion of posting to Saint John in July 1985, Sergeant Parker was on the move again. This time to Canadian Forces Language School, Ottawa, Ontario to attend a one year Intensive French Course. On completion of the course Parker was promoted to Warrant Officer and posted to National Defence Headquarters, Ottawa, Ontario to be employed as a Statistician in the Director Organization and Establishment Cell.
September 1987 to March 1988 Warrant Officer Parker was deployed to Headquarters United Nations Disengagement Observer Force in Damascus, Syria to be employed in the Multi National Headquarters (7-8 different Nations) as the Chief Clerk Logistics and Administration.
Shortly after returning from Damascus in June 1988 Warrant Officer Parker was posted to Canadian Forces School of Administration and Logistics, Borden, Ontario for a three year stint as Supervisor and Instructor for Administrative Clerk Corporal, Sergeant and Administration Officer Basic Officer Training.
In July 1991, after having served 19 years in the Army he went on a completely new adventure. Parker was posted as Chief Clerk in Her Majesty’s Canadian Ship MACKENZIE, Esquimalt, BC. First deployment of the ship was a five and half month journey to Tahiti, New Zealand, Australia, Tonga and Hawaii. HMCS MACKENZIE was decommissioned in 1993. In the Spring of 1994, the crew was deployed to Halifax for five months to receive the newly built ship Her Majesty’s Canadian Ship REGINA and deliver it to Esquimalt, BC. He was awarded the Canada 125 Medal during this posting.
In September 1994, on promotion to Master Warrant Officer he was posted to Canadian Forces Base Kingston, Ontario as the Base Superintendent Clerk. After 10 months at Canadian Forces Base Kingston, he was posted to Canadian Land Forces Command and Staff College, Fort Frontenac, Kingston, Ontario as the Fort/College Sergeant Major.
In July 1999, Master Warrant Officer was posted to Canadian Forces Base Gagetown, NB as the Base Superintendent Clerk responsible for the career employment and advancement of 126 junior Resource Management Clerks. In September 2000, he was deployed to the multi national NATO Stabilization Force Headquarters in Bosnia and Herzegovina and employed as the J3 Operations Branch Sergeant Major. He was awarded the NATO SFOR Medal.
On return from Bosnia in March 2001, Master Warrant Officer Parker was promoted to Chief Warrant Officer and posted the Canadian Forces Housing Authority, Ottawa, Ontario (which is a civilian organization responsible for Military Housing). He was one of two military advisers to the agency.
On November 11, 2003, Chief Warrant Parker was honourably released from the Canadian Armed Forces and became a (Mister) living in Carrolls Crossing, NB. For the next 18 years he was employed part time with CALAIN as a Simulation Operator at the Army Simulation Center in Canadian Forces Base Gagetown, NB
Chief Warrant Officer Parker considers his most special achievement was his appointment as a Member of the Order of Military Merit on October 28, 1998.
