THE COWBELL HISTORY:

In the spring of 2024, Derrick Roul gifted a cowbell to Don Clarke.

This bell has since appeared at numerous Finish Lines at the trail’s end on the East Coast Trail and has rung in over 1,100 trail runners crossing the finish line… transforming a cowbell into The Cowbell; becoming a symbol of positive energy bearing witness to countless realized dreams, new experiences, personal bests, strangers becoming friends, healthy adversity, and individuals finding their place in a community.

Now, this cowbell has been retired.

On Saturday October 26th, 2026, shortly after 4pm, it finally came apart – yet it was put back together, persevered, and remained functional enough to ring in the final finisher at the 2026 ECT 50 Ultra Marathon.

*While this bell has not been rung for every Trail Runner at other races, it has been present for the Paradise Backyard Ultra (2024, 2025, 2026), Outpost 8k (2024, 2025, 2026), Joy Run 50 (2025), Joy Run 25 (2026), Steep Ultra (2025, 2026), and Rock Cut Ultra (2024, 2025, 2026).

I hope you enjoyed the wild weather of this year’s Labour Day weekend! 😮‍💨

On Saturday, Tommy and I completed the STEEP Ultra 50km relay. It was an awesome day, despite the challenging elements. Tonight, I am very much looking forward to the first of two MFR sessions this month. 😍

This 75 minute class is happening both in-studio and online today at 7pm. Class will be recorded and available for playback for a week after.

**Please note - the Momence app is showing IN-STUDIO MFR as a HYBRID class. If you are planning to join online, you need to click the in-studio option and then select ONLINE at the next step to book. This is something I am working on with the software program as it’s acting funny and only for this class. So sorry for any confusion! 🙃

No prior yoga experience necessary. For those joining online, you’ll want two massage or tennis balls and a block.

Steep Ultra – September 6 Post‑Race Update

Yesterday was one of the toughest Steep Ultra days we’ve ever had. The rain never let up — not for a minute — and yet runners, relay teams, volunteers, families, and friends showed nothing but grit, heart, and support from start to finish. You proved exactly what this community is made of.

Our 50 km Solo, 50 km Relay, and 100 km Solo results will be posted as soon as we can. A very small crew is handling teardown and cleanup today, and the weather is still relentless, so thank you for your patience.

Podium Finishers
If you earned a podium spot and didn’t receive your prize or medal, please reach out at [email protected].

Drop Bags
St. John’s runners: If your drop bag is still here, someone is driving to St. John’s tomorrow afternoon. Send a description of your bag and we’ll try to get it sent with them.

Everyone else: If you’re still missing your drop bag, email [email protected] and we’ll coordinate pickup or delivery.

Thank You
To every runner, volunteer, family member, and supporter — on a very hard day, you brought energy, smiles, encouragement, and love to the forefront. Nothing stopped us from doing what we came here to do. We gave effort, and we have accomplishments to show for it.

Steep Ultra is built on community, and yesterday you proved exactly why it’s so special.
