The United Scottish Cultural Society (Scottish Cultural Centre) is pleased to announce that our 129th British Columbia Highland Games Chieftain of the Day will be Coquitlam Mayor Richard Stewart.

The title is an ancient custom where Scottish clans arriving for a Highland Games appointed one person to be the overall "Chieftain of the Day". That tradition continues today at games around the world, including ours. Richard Stewart has long supported our Highland Games in Coquitlam - in its fourth decade in the city - and we honour that support as he retires after serving 18 years as mayor.

The British Columbia Highland Games will take part at ScotFestBC, June 19 and 20 at Coquitlam’s Town Centre Park. The mayor will declare the 129th Games officially open at our Friday evening ceremony and will preside over all events. He will also take a salute from the massed pipe bands at 5:00 pm on Sat. June 20.
