THE PADEL FOUNDERS CUP 2020- A GREAT SUCCESS!!! The Canada Padel Federation on behalf of all Padel Players across Canada is proud to have officially sanctioned this wonderful event in recognition of the founders of Padel in our country.
A note from the founders:
We want sincerely thank everyone who supported the event as a player, volunteer and spectator, it was truly a special weekend.
The Official results were:
- Juniors- all four players ended up with the same number of wins’ and as such--- they are ALL
winners!!! congratulations to Ben Wolfson, Sam Venner, Kael Imlach and Rudy Bannatyne.
Thank you, Mom and Dad’s, for keeping your kids involved in Padel.
- Ladies - Played in a modified round robin format which was mostly fun, social and a pinch of competition
thrown in as well. Special thanks to Jan for getting some extra ladies out to play. Thanks also go out
to Grace for organizing the draw.
-Men's - The champions were Jimmy Stambowsky from Vancouver and Miguel Stamile- two unknowns that
came out of nowhere 😁 Runners up were Scott Kellock and Gabor Illes.
-Open Division- The winners and defending champions of the third Annual Stamile Padel Founders event are:
Dana Pallesen and Andres Stamile- for those of us that were there to see the final match we were
treated to some great play and incredible points. Congratulations also go to the runners up Shane
Nicholl and Alex Vuchovich who despite their limited time playing our sport put on a wonderful show
as well.
Special Thank you's:
- The Canada Padel Federation Officially sanctioned our event which was hosted by the Calgary Padel Club and was widely supported by Padel Players and participants from across Canada for the first time in our history since Padel was established in 1992.
Quebec: A special thanks goes out to our friend and tireless worker and supporter of Padel, Mr. Pedro Heredero who was instrumental in coordinating the players from Quebec and Ontario. Thank you so much Pedro and to your partner Mariano, who is also the president of the Quebec Padel Association!!!
Ontario: We were fortunate enough to have with us two members of the Ontario Padel Association Mr. Paolo De Lano and Mr. Rodrigo Alonso who after having not played for a long time quickly regained their "Game" and were fierce competitors, a special thank you also goes to Adrian Rodriguez who is a key mover and shaker of Padel in Toronto and a great supporter of our sport.
B.C.: Jimmy Stambowski is the president of the BC Padel Association stationed in Vancouver- made a special trip here from Vancouver with his family to play at our event- thank you Jimmy for your dedication to our sport and to doing your best to get padel courts built in Vancouver for us.
Volunteers: A lot of time and effort went into the planning and staging of the event which could not have been pulled off without the time and effort of a multitude of individuals. Most of the volunteers did a wide variety of things and only a few of their highlights are mentioned below:
Participants: Thank you to Jan, Dana and Andres for getting players out for our tournament- given we only have two courts, we had to restrict the number of teams, however a wonderful group of players did participate and had fun competing and meeting new friends. A special thank you goes to Sam Venner who was our official scorekeeper (supported by mom Kirsty) for the final match, where he kept the play going smoothly and the spectators updated with the latest scores.
Logistics: a lot of activity went on prior to and during the event that was done by: Gord, the man about town that juggled many things for us, Angelo that worked on site preparations and repairs, Gabor , our on-call emergency go to person for all things, Kirsty and Patti for developing our thorough Covid19 strategy so that we could comply, Grace, Iris and Jan for general help and assistance in running the ladies draw. Special thank you to Shirley for her many hours of running our beer and beverage garden... some say it was "The" most important job of all😁. To Maria for hanging out with our Spanish speaking guests.
Donations-Prizes: A special shout out to D ‘Anita and Randy for being relentless and effective fundraisers that got us a lot of donations. A special thank you also goes to Rob Wharton for his significant donation of Bull Padel prizes for the event even though he was not able to leave Europe to attend our tournament due to the Covid19 restrictions .Thank you also to Dana and Yonex for their prize donations as well as to Iris, to Patti and the Venners.
