Sharing some sad news, as the SOM family has lost a long time volunteer. Ron MacKay has passed away at the age of 80.

This was always why we did what we did. Sure, the lights, music and thrill of the show was what you think of when you come to SOM. But it was always about the people. The team that gave tirelessly to bring the show to Burlington. This is what cannot ever be forgotten.

Many will recall we brought Ron up onstage this past year at SOM for the crowd to sing him Happy Birthday to celebrate his 80th. He loved every second of it. The moment was a special one that touched him at his core.

Ron was a SOM volunteer for 15 years, and in many ways the heart and soul of what SOM is - community, caring, dedication, and a love for what we do.

He was a trusted member of our team, but more than that, he was our friend.

We'll miss him. Rest easy, Ron. We all love you.

🎶 Burlington – We Need You! 🎶

City staff are recommending that Burlington’s 45-year Sound of Music Festival be shut down. This festival isn’t just about music – it’s about community, local business, tourism, and 45 years of memories.

📍 City Hall Council Chambers
📅 Mon, Oct 6 – 9AM

We need our fans, families, and friends to pack the chambers and show City Council that Burlington believes in music, culture, and community. Together, we can save our festival.

🎶 Burlington, you’ve been amazing. 💚

As a follow-up to our original press release, we wanted to clarify a few important points about the Sound of Music Festival and our future.

✅ We are grateful for our federal, provincial, and city partners — their past and ongoing funding has helped make this festival possible for years.
✅ We’re not placing blame — the facts are government grants alone can’t keep Canada’s largest free music festival alive.
✅ We’ve tightened our belts — cutting costs, streamlining operations, and finding new efficiencies — but we’ve reached a breaking point.

The truth is, while the love and support from our community has been overwhelming, we need more corporate sponsors, private support, and community partners to ensure the music continues for years to come.

💡 If you love SOM and want to see it thrive, we need you — your ideas, your networks, and your voices.

pro🎶 A Crisis We Can’t Ignore: The Future of the Festival Is at Risk 🎶

For 45 years, we’ve been proud to bring free live music to Burlington—welcoming 400,000+ music lovers each year and generating $25 million in economic impact. But now, Canada’s largest free outdoor music festival is in jeopardy.

Due to major cuts in public funding and declining sponsorships, the Sound of Music Festival can’t continue without urgent community and corporate support.

💔 What’s at stake?
• 45 years of memories
• 6,000+ volunteer hours annually
• 50+ Canadian artists showcased yearly
• $500,000+ in local supplier contracts annually
• A cultural event with zero barrier to entry

We need champions—brands, donors, partners, and people who care about music, community, and culture.

📢 The time to act is now.
