Brent is on a field trip to Oak Mt Alabama to take in the XTERRA North American championships this weekend! Got a chance to try out the bike and run course this week. Tomorrow I’ll do some meeting and greeting with the sprint athletes and then Sunday I get to participate! Lots to learn from a world class event like this - we’ll try to bring back some great ideas to Thunder Bay!

Hey Thunder Bay triathletes! Another opportunity to test your early season fitness being out on by our intrepid board member Coach Phil! Check it out!

The first one was so much fun, we decided to do another!
Canada Games Complex at 9 am Sunday May 3, 2026.
The format is simple, swim as many 25m laps as possible in 15 minutes, ride a stationary bike as far as possible in 15 minutes, and run as many laps as possible on an indoor track in 15 minutes. The farther you go, the more points you score.
This is an ideal race for beginners or competitive athletes. All you need is a swim suit, shirt, shoes, and a big smile. Relays are available.

Hi Everyone!

Hope everyone's training is going well! Just a quick registration update for you. Registration is going well! We have folks coming from all over the place so far this year - check out the map below! Judging by our start, this should be the most diverse and competitive field we have had, which is super exciting. Up to 70 already which is good considering there's still A LOT of snow on the ground here (our event is the furthest North XTERRA currently goes after all!)

Join us on August 16th, 2026. We promise the snow will be gone by then.

Remember - we have 56 World Championship spots up for grabs. It should be great odds for age groupers. But it's not all about qualifying - our event is great for beginners too. Check us out! And don't miss the early bird deadline - April 30th!

Hi everyone! Hope you all had a good Easter Weekend! If you are feeling a little guilty from all of the turkey and spoils of your Easter egg hunt, here’s something to look forward to! As promised, we’ve mapped out a new half marathon course for the XTERRA Sleeping Giant for 2026! See the info on Trailforks (link below).

This year the half marathon will start at Boulevard Lake right after the mountain bikes head out from the tri events. You will do a quick loop of the duathlon course, run out the same trails as the mountain bikes follow and then pick up the run course at portal just under the overpass.

The new course will add some variety by replacing 7km of the course which previously would have been another loop of the same trail and has the added advantage of an earlier start, which should mean most are finishing around the same time as the other events. It should mean one big happy party at the end for ALL even finishers, and most of time for a well earned beverage and some food.

The Half Marathon Course for the 2026 XTERRA Sleeping Giant.

Hi everyone! Happy April 1st!

As spring is approaching, our organizing committee has been looking at the XTERRA Sleeping Giant Triathlon bike leg and we've decided to reroute our course to add "The Vein". This is the hardest, most technical trail we have - a double-black downhill monster - I'm sure everyone will love the large jumps with mandatory gaps! It's super fun - just mind the gap and don't land short! Looking forward to the comments about how excited everyone is with change!
