Given all of the turmoil and atrocities going on in various parts of the world right now it seemed more appropriate than ever this year to take a few moments at 11:11:11 to sit solemnly and think appreciatively of our veterans, armed forces members and peacekeepers for all the work that they have done and continue to do to give us the lifestyle we are blessed with.

With gratitude to you all, thank you.

Greetings Ching family,

Earlier this week Chinguacousy SS held its graduation and commencement ceremony for the 2023 graduates. Due 100% to the generosity of the many Ching alumni that either purchased tickets for the reunion or made a donation to the cause, we were able to donate $4,000 in bursary gifts to six deserving graduates. There were two $1,000 awards and four $500 awards. We asked Principal Lam and the teacher leads on the grad committee for their recommendations, all of these students represented Ching with dignity, overcame personal challenges, were active leaders in the community and overall showed strong leadership skills during their tenure at the school.

Our congratulations go out to the following deserving students:

Shadae Foreman $1,000 - has shown the most growth during her time here at Ching and is an active leader in many aspects of our school community.

Danielle Okojie $1,000 - has been a strong social justice advocate and is an active leader in many aspects of our school community.

Claudia Martinez $500 - has been a strong leadership presence in many aspects of our school community.

Joshua Kurian $500 - has been a strong leadership presence in many aspects of our school community.

Alma Begovic $500 - has been a strong leadership presence in many aspects of our school community.

Lateefat Sanni $500 - has been a strong leadership presence in many aspects of our school community.

The alumni committee would like to reiterate it's appreciation to all of the generous Ching alumni for helping make this happen. πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘

Had to visit Ching this afternoon to pick up some left behind items from the Chinguacousy's 50th Anniversary celebration and chat with Principal Lam about the donation to the current students from the fundraising that was done (he's a real quality guy and did what he could to help us behind the scenes). Realizing it might be my last ever visit was an interesting experience. Not melancholy at all, maybe just a final goodbye for old times sake. More about the donation in the days to come.

Since I was in the area I stopped into Mackay Pizza for a slice of 'za and of course the "Patty Deluxe" with cheese, tomato, lettuce and mayo...the patty was every bit as delish as what I remembered from working at Food City 35 years ago, unfortunately the pizza was nowhere near as good. Also grabbed a pic of the old Ellen Mitchell rec center where we had some awesome times hanging out after closing time that definitely weren't sanctioned by the town, that's for damn sure.

Neat experience reflecting on the path that's been travelled from then until now.

It has been a great privilege to honour our Ching alumni that have passed away through the In Memoriam video. The feedback has been incredibly gratifying and we thank you for all the wonderful feedback. We've learned of a few individuals that might have been accidentally overlooked and are adding them to the tribute as we learn of such. If you are aware of any additional people that should be honoured please let us know, & if you could possibly share a pic? If not, please do not worry, we will do our best to have them included in the tribute video.
