The Significance of Pongal and Makara Vilakku
Pongal a prominent harvest festival in Tamil Nadu, is a time of great joy and gratitude. Coinciding with Uttarayanam, when the Sun begins its northward journey, the festival holds immense significance in Hindu tradition. Makara Vilakku on the other hand marks the culmination of the 41-day Vratham observed by Ayyappa devotees. It is a divine phenomenon where a sacred light appears on the Ponnambalamedu hill near Sabarimala, Kerala on this *Makara Sankranti* day. This miraculous event symbolizes the divine presence and blessings of Lord Ayyappa.
