BARRIERE TRIPLE HEADER UPDATE! JUNE 13/14

1. Goats can move in as early as 4pm Friday, June 12.
Goats being classified must be on site by 9am Saturday (and can stay on the vehicle until called if you like).
All animals entered in the show MUST be in place for health check by 8am Sunday. Again, exhibitors may choose to show right from their vehicle.
You can leave as soon as you are done showing - exception, GCH of breed must stay for BIS class at the end of the doe show.

2. Classification will run on Saturday from 9:00 AM until DONE. Our Classifier is Callum McLeod and all herds should respond to his email enumerating the animals you are presenting, reg , birth dates, lactation number, date fresh. DO IT ASAP.

3. 4-H Youth Show will run at 9:00 sharp on Sunday.

4. OPEN SHOW starts right after the youth. We have a DOUBLE show this year, judged by Chelsey Simmons and Chris Grab.
One entry fee of $20 per animal covers both shows.
How will it work? Example: Nubian dry yearlings come into the ring. Judge 1 places the class and gives reasons. We then ask the exhibitors to randomize a bit, then Judge 2 comes in to place them. Same deal for Championship lineups, each Judge will have their own.
Crazy? Yes. Chaotic? VERY YES. It works though, and it's fun!

4. Entry forms are on the BCGA Events page (we are the first show listed: https://www.bcgoat.ca/showsevents.html Forms are in PDF and XLS format, take your pick!

5. Any questions, post them here or contact me directly: Linda Carlson, Show Secretary.

2026 DOUBLE HEADER/CLASSIFICATION UPDATE!
We are ON for June 13/14, 2026.
Classification application deadline: MARCH 15. We have space for a dozen more goats for Classification, and hey, if 40 apply, we'll find a way to pay a second site fee and add Thursday, June 12. :)
GIT 'ER DONE, PEOPLE!
CGS let me know we have Sharon, Alexis, Taylor and myself so far. :)

Entry fees for the show are $10/goat (max $200 per breeder), FREE for the Youth/4H show. I'll get entry forms sorted next week and will book our judge. :)
We will sanction all breeds for does with 10+ entries (with AOP insurance expected to combine Alpine, Toggenburg, LaMancha, Oberhasli). Recorded Grades will of course be separate by requirement. We expect Nubians and Nigerians to qualify for 10+ with ease.
Bucks will be Combined Purebred (dairy).

Classification update: New rule for 2026 states that if we have more than 40 goats for classification, we will incur a SECOND $300 site fee. This change was made by the Board in November, but I guess I missed reading the meeting notes on the CGS site.

I have just submitted my application for 10 goats and paid the site fee - this means I can personally accommodate another 30 goats before we have to discuss a second site fee.

When filling in the form, put me down as the host herd (Linda Carlson, ID 5422791) and location as NTFF Grounds, Dunne Lake Road, Barriere, BC.
https://goats.ca/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Classification-App-Form-2026_Oct-23-2025_editable.pdf
Fill it in, sign it, download it, then send it in to CGS ([email protected]) and be sure to send an e-transfer, and BEFORE March 15.
**Just do it NOW before you forget.** :D

I suspect this additional site fee will result in a sharp decline in the number of non-first fresheners and bucks being presented - it certainly made a difference to MY list, keeping it shorter so that others can participate without an additional site fee. :(

SO... first thirty goats get to ride on my site fee. Please post here when you apply, with the total number, so that I can keep track!
**Remember that first fresheners are MANDATORY. All others will be at your discretion.**

[EDIT] TENTATIVE DATE June 13/14 (was originally June 6/7 (as shown in the picture).
- Kathleen Arkes reached out to say that Wild Rose is planning a JLC for that weekend (has not been approved by CGS yet, so not set in stone).
- I cannot run this the previous weekend due to an immovable family commitment a few thousand miles away.
- ALTERNATE DATE: June 13/14 is possible. It's a full 5 weeks before the West National in Lloydminster, in case anyone is heading out for that!
Always something going on, right? :P Let me know your thoughts!
===============================

The CGS Classification site fee for 2026 remains at $300.
Once again, I will sponsor the site fee, because I will pay it regardless, but I can no longer afford to carry the bulk of the show costs.

I'm here to ask people are interested in holding a show in conjunction with Classification, or prefer to spend their own $300 site fee for the comfort and convenience of classifying on their home farm.

What a show costs:
All told, we need a minimum of $1400 to cover a Judge, transportation, their meals, hotel, sanctions (Nu, Ni, LM, AoP, Bucks), official certificates.
That's $200 each if we have 8 open show exhibitors. 4-H/Youth is always free.
This is for a local-ish, BC based judge who will drive for $200, by the way. If we fly anyone in, cost will increase by up to $500 - so if we get 10 exhibitors at $200 each, then that's doable too.

For $200, enter as many animals as you like. Once the base costs are covered, we can discuss lower fees for tiny herds. Does that make sense?

(I know you'll ask, so... If we want to go for a double sanction, we need another $1300.)

Are you interested? Are you out? Please respond by January 20th so I can make plans. :)
I don't do fundraising, so anyone with that suggestion is welcome to undertake that thankless task, lol. Not it!

[UPDATE: The Andersen herd requested a move to the back row, so I've updated this map.]
Pen assignments! We have 10 4-H, a couple of pee-wees, I figure they'll all fit in the area designated for Yellowhead 4-H.
50 open entries: Pens D4-D9 are currently open if you need overflow penning, please use them as needed.
I regret that I will not be on site until tomorrow at 4 pm, but please feel free to message me or post here if you have any questions. ~Linda Carlson

TOMORROW is MOVE IN DAY!
Please plan to arrive between 4:00 PM and 9:00 PM PST.*

- Remember to bring a herd sign and identification for your goats!
- The pen cleaning fee only applies if you do not clean your own pens upon departure, and all proceeds go to Yellowhead 4-H.
- 4-H starts 9 am Sunday, followed by pee-wee, then the Open Goat show. Order of showing is as printed in the catalog, unless there is dire need for a switch, which will be communicated to all.exhibitors.

*We will not have stalls assigned, nor health check personnel on site, before 4:00 PM, and we will be gone at 9:00 PM, so if you have any issues at all, please poat here or text/DM Linda Carlson, show convener (number in the NTFF catalog).
Health check is mandatory, and you may NOT house goats in the pens without it (you can keep them in your vehicle, but it's going to be hot!)

Any questions or concerns, post to this thread or poke me (Linda Carlson) online wherever. :)
