The brainchild of Country 100.7 announcer Jonathan Crouse and local musician Jason McCorriston. It was a shared vision to bring a great music festival to the south shore of Nova Scotia which doesn’t cater to just one type of musical taste and showcases independent maritime artists. With the overwhelming amount of talent in the Maritimes this vision has become a reality. Before Riverfest was an off
icial annual event and still in it’s infancy. Local rock act Short Notice and a few other bands graced the then “Hay Wagon Stage” to a sparse gathering. It was this night in the infamous farm house that Jonathan approached friend and Short Notice’s bassist; Jason McCorriston to work together to build an annual music festival and hell of an outdoor party. Riverfest has been nominated for an East Coast Music Award. In 2006 Riverfest was honored with a nomination for “Music Event of the Year” by “Music Nova Scotia”. The winner of this award went to the Juno’s. Excellent company to keep and be nominated along side of. This nomination only enforced the fact that Riverfest is more than a flash in the pan. Some of the acts that have graced the Riverfest stage include international acts such as multiple award winning recording acts Helix, Haywire, Lee Aaron and The Northern Pikes as well as MIR, Joel Plaskett and Charlie A’Court along with local favorites Air Traffic Control and Short Notice. With Short Notice having performed at each Riverfest since it’s inception in 2004 (and before). All money raised (after cost) is donated to two local charities based in the south shore of Nova Scotia. All acts involved donate their time and talent to the event which builds the heart of Riverfest. We are proud of all the performers whom have graced our stage since the beginning of this event. The generosity of each musician to share their art with the Riverfest attendees is truly appreciated.
