Huge congratulations to Dempsey Bolton, winner of this year’s Peace in the Park Songwriting contest.

His song Splinters took the top spot. Why this song matters… “I wrote Splinters about how the way we work in North America doesn’t feel healthy or sustainable. Always striving for the next goal or milestone while constantly being reminded that there are thousands of people doing better than I am left me feeling burnt out and depressed.

I think the way we define ourselves and our value has to shift and Splinters is a lament of how things currently are.

Maybe one day I’ll write about how they could be.” Said Dempsey.

Dempsey recently released his third album “IN THE PRESENCE OF GIANTS” with lyrics inspired by his degree in astrophysics. He also likes growing sunflowers. He’s a complex dude.
The albums focus track landed in rotation on Sirius XM’s The Verge. This summer he performed at the Calgary Stampede’s Coke Stage before heading out on a western Canadian tour.

His prize includes $2500 cash, voice coaching with Rockit Vocal Studios and studio time at Studio 88 in Airdrie

Finding the right help for mental health and addiction should not be the hardest part.

Headliner Announcement!!!

We are thrilled to announce our headliner for Peace in the Park 5! This year, we will be Rockin' for A Reason with Alan Frew!

Multi-platinum selling songwriter, Frew is also known for his work with Glass Tiger, which has garnered him five Juno Awards, a Grammy nomination and five Canadian Classic Awards in recognition of songs that have been played in excess of 100,000 times on Canadian Radio. Additionally, Frew co-wrote 'I Believe' (the theme song for CTV's coverage of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games) with Stephan Moccio,. He also co-wrote the title track from Johnny Reid's Juno-Nominated album "Fire it Up",which was coincidentally also recording by the legendary Joe Cocker.

Frew has toured with artists including Rod Stewart, Tina Turner and Fleetwood Mac, and performed for the Canadian Armed Forces and their allies in Bosnia, Israel, Egypt and Afghanistan. In light of his recent health scare, Alan is actively speaking out on the dangers of high cholesterol and hypertension in an effort to increase public knowledge and raise awareness of proper health practices in stroke prevention.

He is also a public speaker and author of the best-selling book 'The Action Sandwich-A Six Step Recipe to Success by Doing What You're Already Doing'.
