This rainy day has me reminiscing on my time spent with .botanicals and working on my craft.

Last year I created clear intentions of laying down my work snips for my creative ones. My time was consumed with prepping, growing and caring for my gardens, and in that I forgot to enjoy them.

For those that are new here, hi, I’m Chalie. I’m the artist and gardener behind Howesclere. While my art practice looks different from when I graduated with my BFA 13 years ago, I continue to practice art with the medium of flowers.

Currently on my brain? Crafting a living installation this summer in our gardens. It will be quite brilliant, quite English and quite lovely. Who wants to come and escape to inspiration?

WHAT IF YOU JUST WENT FOR IT ✨

You might just find God’s plan unfolding in beautiful and unexpected ways.

God has been showing up big in so many various ways of late I can’t keep count anymore. I see moves in my life compounding into an amazing plan that only He could craft. Little moments showing his protection over my family. In the quiet, in the waiting, in the everyday he was always there and I want to give Him recognition for that.

Thankful and blessed to share this gardening passion with you all. Thank you for being here. ✨

SPRING IN JAPAN 🌸🇯🇵

Japan stole our hearts in so many ways. This country is not a “if we go back” it’s a “when we go back” kind of place. And if it’s not on your traveling bucket list it needs to be.

When we go back we will:
🌸 book mid April for more blooms (end of cherry blossoms, azaleas, wisteria) or in the fall season for foliage
🌸 spend more time in smaller cities, but revisit Kyoto and Kanazawa
🌸 schedule more time for relaxing (perhaps in Hakone or in the southern parts of Japan)
🌸 more arts and crafts workshops
🌸 let the kids be the official photographers because they took all the good shots

So much beauty amongst the people, places and nature. Looking forward to sharing our observations about

THINGS I WHOLEHEARTEDLY BELIEVE IN✨

You can start over as many times as you need to - definitely in the garden, but also in your daily habits and goals

Resting is a skill worth practicing - this is a hard one, but needed. I find as I get older rest has become “I’m not being productive so I’m not worthy of x,y,z”. But I’m practicing to unlearn this.

You are allowed to slow down even if the world around you is moving fast - you can unplug, say no

A few of my thoughts as we head to Okayama Korakuen, one of the big three gardens of Japan 🇯🇵🏯🌸

Why? So many of them these days.

I know that I promised an update on the happening of Howesclere for the rest of the season, but I’ve been struggling to put something together. I recorded it, but then after felt so odd because it felt too joyful. We have so many exciting things to share, but at the same time we have a very difficult situation unfolding for our family.

And this morning the only thing that I can say is “why?” Why, why , why… a thousand times why? When you have beautiful people in your life it hurts extra hard when you have to start asking “why?”.

This song is carrying me through these days. Our Dinner in Bloom will be our last event of the 2025 season. I’ll give an update soon, it’s just not now. I look at these blooms and I’m reminded, wow, life is so beautiful and delicate. And counting blessings remedy the stings of life.

Thank you Lord for all the blessings.
