Introducing our teachers
Sara Angelucci (Kaiho Company)

In her workshops, Sara shares a personal improvisation method based on the interplay of qualities of movement connected to intentions, imaginary scenarios, and writings. She is interested in how to create spontaneity in interpretation as performers, working from the inside out, rather than for pure aesthetics.

The class aims to not stand on the hierarchy of teacher-alumn, but more of research in progress for both sides and where a personal way of moving is very welcome. Sara shares floorwork basics, to then experiment in a less traditional way with it.

Sara is an Italian freelance artist originally from Rome (IT), living in Brussels (BE) and currently working in and around Europe. She is part of different artistic realities each enriching uniquely her universe, bringing her the ability to use her different skills and vocabulary in dance, physical theater, interpretation, and performance.

Her education takes place in DAF Dance Arts Faculty in Rome (IT), and NOD Nuova Officina della Danza in Turin (IT).

In 2020, Sara starts collaborating with Kaiho Company, directed by Brandon Lagaert, as an artistic assistant for creations such as Welcome to My Funeral of Equilibrio Dinamico actually touring in Italy, Next Stop for the University AHK in Amsterdam, Oni Wa Soto for the University Paolo Grassi in Milano, and as a performer of the solo Mondo Fuso and the duet A slight hint.

In 2021/2022 she works for Snorkel Rabbit Company as a performer, directed by Bryan Arias and Alba Carbonel Castillo, creating and performing in the pieces A distant perception, and 100 Years, and dancing in the repertoire A rather lovely thing.
Sara starred as a performer in Zèbre, a 30 min solo in collaboration with Antonin Comestaz for the evening Here We Live and Now 2021 produced by Korzo and NDT.
In 2023 she works for Tamara Gvozdenovic performing the piece Metronomia.

Sara will lead a workshop from Monday the 21st to Wednesday the 23rd - 10h to 12h

Her course can be taken individually or in a weekly package together with the two days workshop lead by Eliana Stragapede (Peeping Tom) on Thursday the 24th and Friday the 25th of August.
The price for the week is 60 euros.

Jetsummer dance week Brussels 2023
Introducing out teachers

Eliana Stragapede (Peeping Tom)

The workshop will explore physical theatre – the connection between intention/emotion and movement. Through a playful and open environment, we will challenge our movement habits and try to develop a stronger sensibility for detail and authenticity in movement.
After a physical warm-up, participants will investigate their own individuality through improvisation. They will explore how to produce physicality coming from a certain intention/sensation/situation. To support this process, a few elements from the Peeping Tom performances 'The missing door' and 'The lost room' will be studied as well.

Carmela Eliana Stragapede (°1996, Bari – Italy) joined Peeping Tom in 2020 for Triptych: The missing door, The lost room and The hidden floor. She started her dance education in private schools in the region. In 2011, she was part of the Junior Dance Company, the first youth company in the south of Italy under the direction of Sara Accettura. Here she had the possibility to work and perform pieces of Osnat Kelner, Kerry Nicholls, Yoshua Cienfuegos etc.

She continued her studies at the Codarts University of the Arts in Rotterdam, working with Club Guy & Roni, Lukas Timulak, Jiří Kylián, Raphael Bonachela and others. During her internship period she worked with Marina Mascarell and Club Guy& Roni/Poetic Disasters Club. Graduated in 2018, she became a part of the Tanzmainz Ensemble at Staatstheater Mainz for two seasons. Here she worked with Roy Assaf, Club Guy & Roni, Victor Quijada, Felix Berner and Pierre Rigal. As a young maker, she created "AMAE" (2022) together with Borna Babić.
At the Copenhagen International Choreography Competition the piece won the 1st place and
Production Awards by Nederlands Dans Theater and Holstebro Dansekompagni. At the Rotterdam International Duet Choreography Competition the duet won Partner awards by Codarts and Dansateliers in Rotterdam.
Beside being a performer and an emergent choreographer, Eliana nurtures her passion for teaching by holding various workshops across Europe.

Eliana will lead a workshop as a part of jetsummer dance weeks Brussel on Thursday the 24th and Friday the 25th of August,
10am - 12am.

This workshop can be taken individually or as a week workshop - together with the classes given by Sara Angelucci, freelance dancer and assistant to Brandon Lagaert (director of Kaiho and performer for Peeping Tom) on the 21st, 22nd and 23rd.

The price for the week is 60 euros, or 40 euros for the two days.

Introducing our teachers

Jade Waterloo - Contemporary Intermediate/Advanced

"Since I was very young training I received by different professional dancers and choreographer allowed me to integrate various methods and approaches in my practice. Dance has always been a way to fully express myself. Enriched by this variety of techniques and styles - I soon decided to start developing my own material and classes. My courses are a mixture of different techniques that I have learned and that has been important in my own development, as Roxane Huilmand technique, flying low, passing trough and many more.
I develop and explore floor work and acrobatic movements as well as playing with the weight of the body and its fluidity, release and tension."

Jade will give class for intermediate to advance dancers the 28, 29, 30 of August
18h - 20h in DanscentrumJette Studio.

The total price for the workshop is 80 euros.

Roxane Huilmand - Dance Phrasing
Movart

Dance phrasing is a concept and practice related to grouping consecutive movements in time and space, both in their composition and performance. A Dance Phrase is a sequence of movements that have a meaning,
especially when forming part of a choreography. Dance Phrasing refers to an expressive shaping of dance. It relates to the shaping of movement in space and architecture, time, qualities, dynamics and other variables.

After her studies in Rotterdam, Roxane joined Rosas (Anne Teresa de Keersmaeker) from 1984 till 1989. From 1985 until 1989 she was a choreographer member of Kaaitheater. She created "Muurwerk", "Tanz mit Männer", "Capricieuse" and toured in Belgium, Europe and Japan. She went on making pieces with ASHKA and
on demand in France and Austria (Hic et Nunc, Virelay, Bonjour Gérard.) Roxane Huilmand danced in films of Wolfgang Kolb ("Muurwerk", "Hoppla!", "Capricieuse" "Aix '89"). From 1990 onwards she taught numerous workshops at festivals, schools and organisations worldwide (Jacobs Pillow Dancefestival USA, Mimeschool Amsterdam, Cdc Toulouse). Between 1991 and 1994 she directed the repertory of Rosas and from 1996 she was a teacher at the faculty of P.A.R.T.S, RITCS, H.I.D., and various companies. Since 1997 she is the director of

JETSUMMER danceweeks Brussels 2023
Introducing our teachers

Tijen Lawton (Need Company, Pierre Droulers)

Tijen Lawton is a professional dance artist, performer, movement researcher, choreographer, facilitator and mentor. Her work shifts between performing, teaching, rehearsal directing, mentoring and researching in artistic and academic contexts. Her methodology is based on combining somatic technical work, improvisation and on supporting constant creativity through moving, dialogue, inclusivity, freedom of expression and the ongoing interest in the evolving, moving human body.
She studied at Arts Educational School London, The Place London, The Juilliard School New York. Her main body of works spans over a period of 30 years. For 15 years, she was a constant presence in all of Jan Lauwers and Needcompany’s work performing, creating and touring worldwide. Also performing & collaborating with Caterina & Carlotta Sagna, Mauro Paccagnella & Wooshing Machine, Erika Zueneli, As Palavras / Cie Claudio Bernardo, Rebecca Lenaerts, Greet Vissers & Kunstz, Mokhallad Rasem & het Toneelhuis, Marco Toricce, laGeste, Lisaboa Houbrechts.
In her practice, she is constantly investigating and challenging her own body and its embedded knowledge as an archive between destruction and preservation: sculpting bones, skin, the entire cellular system, their collaboration in time and space, its ability to adapt and survive.
“My investigation, negotiation and experience is the concept of resonance. Resonance is beyond what is available, attainable and accessible. This means it is elusiveness, that it is impossible to predict or control what the result of an experience of resonance will be, what the process of transformation will result in. My aim of endeavour is to keep moving, sharing and challenging myself, defining and redefining movement and voice to find the beauty, liberation, despite the dangers and the fear. Kinaesthetic intelligence, persistence and stacking, layering of crisscrossing wavelengths of physical, technical and mindful challenges, inner drive and cellular structure, a knowledge so deeply embedded in the body, nourishing the constant creative body. The exposing of bare energy is my motivation and questioning the internal limit of thinking as inspired by the purity and complexity of the body and the life it lives.”

Unleashing to Expand the moment
Searching for Conscious Risk and Trust in the Body - A Hidden Physical Morphology

The class works from a physically & emotionally demanding movement methodology designed to encourage, inspire and build awareness and connectivity in the constant search for movement. When we direct the mind or attention to different areas of the body and initiate movement from these areas, we change the quality of our movement. Through a dynamic movement language we will embody a sensory awareness of our own physical possibilities to let go of one’s patterns and preconceptions about the moving body.
The class will move work from the awareness of the relationships between our mind/body as a starting point for action. The merging of these two - awareness and action - can allow for a conscious risk; a constant fall and abandon in the body combined with an understanding and availability to trust. By defining and refining independent movement materials for different parts in our body and segregating those parts from each other and by investigating a certain sequential order of the body, we can explore multi-dimensional movement and visit new and unfamiliar ways to move.
When movement asks for full engagement, the connection with knowledge and resonance is inherent in the moving-thinking body, freedom appears naturally and knowledge swells.
This allows us to discover the relationship between the smallest level of activity within the body and the largest movement of the body, aligning the inner cellular movement with the external expression of dynamic movement through space.
We will engage in the dialogue of resistance, resolution, resonance.

Monday the 28th to Friday the 30th of August.
10h to 12h.
The total price for 3 morning classes is 50 euros.

Introducing the teachers of Jetsummer dance weeks Brussels 2023

Tamara Gvozdenovic (Le Facteur, Peeping Tom)

Born in Serbia, raised in Switzerland, Tamara studied in London before settling in Brussels where she is now based. Many personalities with whom she worked affected her way of
approaching dance in the on-going contemporary process of materialising the medium and with whom she has found a common ground to explore the many facets of dance-theatre :
Rosemary Butcher, Simon Vincenzi, Franck Chartier & Gabriela Carrizo (Peeping Tom), Tabea Martin. Working as an artist, choreographer and performer, she is collaborating closely with music producer and renowned dj Kangding Ray since 2022. Together they become a duet of creators constantly questioning their individual medium and exploring the meeting of sound and movement. Tamara is also leading her research of the “ma” in the field of dance through her teaching, her performing and creations around the globe under the name of Le Facteur.
Le Facteur was born from the inspiration and the desire to bring creators together around common artistic values and hybrid performance formats. Based between Belgium, France
and Switzerland, Le Facteur develops a structure that reflects on the relationship between different mediums being mostly dance and experimental music. Several questions then arise
about the place of the body, the sensory, the language or the matter in the themes the artists from the collective develop through their productions and their exchanges during their workshops.

Unleash the beast

Behind Tamara’s approach and way of working lies a constant process of self-questioning about how the body finds its space in space. How it places itself, the position it takes and the subsequent impact that it can have, constantly being in a state of “negotiation” and adaptability. In the actual epoch of legitimizing our own selves and owning our grounds, Tamara uses physicality as a trigger point to let go judgement, to let go off the ego through an experience of different quality propositions going from fluid to abrupt, from trance to repetition, from primitivism to “architecturism”. She seizes the dancer’s bodily attention into a palpable experience of time and space: The past, the present and the future live together; they carry the movement and the transformation.
The research aims to embark the students through a journey of musicality through movement and body sounds. The use of electronic, new age and techno music helps to create a circular way of moving as well as a direct response to the sound in order to bring up a more animal way of communicating. The senses are multiplied and the focus is sharp.
Through the deconstruction of gestures, the body is constantly reaching for stimulation and surprise, the dance varies between linearity and animality with a constant quest of strong and unusual physicalities, all of it as an exploration of a vast spectrum of movement qualities
to be able to build new on a neutral but solid base.

Orientation Practice

"My story began from an early age as my family toured and worked within a circus company.
This seemed to grant me a complex and vibrant environment in which to cultivate and perhaps plant the seeds towards the ongoing journey and immersion into my personal movement practice.
A practice which consists of relating to body mind and space, and continues to be a central part of how I relate to the world.
During these early years there was a particular interest towards acrobatics, as it seemed to allow for a less confined exploration of what is physically possible, and perhaps most importantly inspired me to dig deeper.

Through this process a myriad of other practices appeared along the way, each offering a new perspective and sensation.
Gaining more sensitivity and awareness through the exploration of movement seemed to temporarily clarify things for me,
but the practice is still a ongoing process and there is a long way to go.
This has become one of the key things that excite and motivate me to continue this journey."

This will be a week long intimate daily practice with Winston, looking into various themes of physical and cognotive practices.
Expect to touch upon, microbatics, partnering, strenght work, agility work, environmental awerness and more.

Where does a practice begin and end? How do we structure and navigate each introduction to a new and/or old element? Why do we practice? How do we practice? How do we digest failure and success? How do we see, hear, feel our practice? And what is our perspective? These are some of the questions we will begin to chew on.
To help us here we can examine various different approaches: Through working within improvisation we can begin to discover what is already there, and find ways to access its potential. Through working with the partners we get to cross test various scenarios and puzzles to help spread more light on the more blurry areas of our practice. And through working on literal exposure to all the possible physical and cognitive practices we can perhaps begin to gain more fluency and hopefully at some point harmony in what it is we are practicing.

Who is it for?

The workshop is open to all levels and backgrounds but some involvement within an ongoing personal practice of some sort is recommended. This could range from but not limited to, dance, circus, sports, yoga, martial arts, parkour and so on..
Generally we have a wide variety of different people coming to these events, so whatever your background is, you are very welcome!

Starting Monday the 14th of August - Reserve your spot for a week training! 17h to 19h.

Depending on the weather, the class will be outside.
We will meet 15 minutes earlier in DCJ and walk there together!

The total price for the 5 classes is 60 euros
