MUSIC FUND REPAIR CHALLENGE 2026 - RECORD BATTU!

Meet the New Repairers 🔧🎻🎸
The Repair Challenge continues with three new repairers joining us this year.
Each of them brings a different story, a different path and, above all, a shared belief in the power of music and craftsmanship.

🎸 Florence Preudhomme has been studying guitar making for four years, specialising in classical guitars. But her passion for the instrument started much earlier: at just five years old, she already told her mother that she wanted to play guitar. After discovering the Repair Challenge, she decided to take part because she strongly believes in Music Fund’s mission.

🎻 Osvaldo Cavele is returning to the Repair Challenge for his second year.
After studying violin restoration and maintenance, he is now in Cremona, where he is specialising in violin making.

🎻 Juliette Najean, from ITEMM, is joining the Repair Challenge for the first time. For her, this Challenge is both a way to contribute to something meaningful and an opportunity to give a deeper purpose to the skills she is learning.

Three different journeys, one shared belief: when an instrument is repaired, its story doesn’t end, it begins again. 🧡

Thanks to people like them that these instruments can continue their journey and, one day, make music again. 🙏

We’re almost at the end of the first week of the Music Fund Repair Challenge 2026 in Marche en Famenne. 🔧🎻
Over the past few days, we’ve had the chance to talk with the repairers taking part in this year’s challenge, and it has been wonderful to see once again how MUSIC FUND brings together people from different backgrounds and countries, united by one common goal: giving instruments a second life and helping make music accessible to everyone.

✨ Meet the repairers of this week!
David Murray has been repairing flutes for almost 20 years and runs his own workshop in Scotland. He has also had the opportunity to teach his craft over the years. This is his first Repair Challenge, and he has particularly enjoyed exchanging knowledge with other professionals. Even though they work on different types of instruments, they have discovered many shared techniques and points of connection.

Ann Baeten & Matthias Verheirstraeten are working together on violin repairs this week. Ann has been passionate about violin making since she was 17, and after retiring, she turned part of her home into a small workshop. This is not her first Repair Challenge, and she is very happy to be back and to have the opportunity to learn from Matthias.

Matthias studied violin making in Ghent and Poznań and specialised in the restoration and tonal adjustment of fine string instruments. After years of experience in Southern Germany, he returned to Belgium in 2025, where he opened his own atelier in Antwerp. He also teaches at ILSA. 🎻

Lucien Hamel & Benjamin Boxall were already part of the Music Fund team in the months leading up to the Repair Challenge, as interns from ITEMM. It was a real pleasure to see them grow, learn and bring their energy and curiosity to our daily work. And now they’re back for the Repair Challenge, ready to put their skills into practice, learn from experienced repairers and take on new challenges together!

We would like to thank all our repairers for sharing their knowledge, skills and passion with us. It is thanks to people like them that these instruments can continue their journey and, one day, make music again. 🧡
