In the spring of 2015 a diverse team of Belgian climbers will attempt to climb Makalu. Located in a remote part of the Himalayas on the border between Nepal and China, some 19 km southeast of Mount Everest, Makalu is the fifth highest mountain in the world with an elevation of 8463 metres. It was first climbed in 1955 by Lionel Terray & Jean Couzy, two legendary French alpinists. Although there we

re several attempts in the past, never has anyone from our small country stood on top of this giant... So it for sure will be a unique expedition!

Het thema dit jaar is "Women move Mountains"

Last year Jean-Luc returned to Makalu (without summit), Sofie climbed Everest (North Side).

Elk steentje dat we bijdragen voor steun aan de kinderen van Nepal, is er eentje voor een beter toekomst :) De expeditie Belgian Everest climb 2016 steunt Shangri-La , zie de website www.belgianeverestclimb.com met oa de Everest film voorstelling t.v.v. Shangri-La, dit najaar.
Paul ging tijdens ons verblijf in Kathmandu op bezoek bij Shangri-La Home, Belgische Int. Ngo die onderdak biedt aan 70 kinderen en re-integratie trajecten aan meer dan 100 adolescenten. Overhandiging aan zaakvoerder Wim (supergast) van kleine check vanwege onze Everest Base Camp trekkers.

gisteravond vertelden Wolf en Rudi over hun expeditie op Makalu op de clubavond van de Bergsport Vlaams Brabant. Wolf toonde er zijn film, Rudi kwam getuigen over de voortgang van het project "Actie 25/4", met foto's van onze investeringen in de regio na de aardbeving. "Mountain Man" was er bij en zag dat het goed was :-)

Ook al is het bijna een jaar geleden, toch is het verhaal niet af.

Luisteren, foto & film kijken en vragen stellen kan op 25 maart om 20 uur in Kortenberg (OC Berkenhof, Beekstraat 25) op de clubavond van de Bergsport Vlaams Brabant. Iedereen welkom, leden en 65+ betalen 3 euro, niet-leden 5 euro inkom, drankje in begrepen.

a flavour of the progress of our investments in the Seduwa area
We are very happy to show you the first results of our investments in the Seduwa region!
As stated before, Rudi, Charlie and Veerle visited Seduwa and the villages beyond in October.
They found positive signs (a completely new school is being built by a Korean NGO) but sadly enough also a lot of unknown, hidden needs in Seduwa and in the nearby settings.
That is why we did not exactly follow the original dream of the new school, but responded to the needs of the locals.
The pictures show the first signs of rehab:
- we built a kitchen and sleeping area for the teachers of the Nabagaon school. Up till now, they had been living, cooking and sleeping in the classroom, so they had to organize their lessons outside. Thanks to our support, teaching can be done where it should be: in the classroom.
- We helped refurnishing and decorating the small monastery in Nabagaon. For us, Western people, it might seem strange to focus on a religious place on the priority list, but for the local community this monastery, that is also used to teach buddhist stories, is of major importance;
- in Seduwa, we also restored the roof and created two extra classrooms;
- in Mulgaun, a one hour walk from Seduwa, we had 22 sets of benches and desks made. We also bought 5 new whiteboards for the school and provided the markers to write on them.
- our local guide, Dawa messaged us: “Once again, all the people would like to say a big " Thank you" to all of you, and wishes many success and happiness for your coming days,

Yesterday expedition member Wolf presented for NEOS Lier to some 100 attendants the story and a movie about the adventures on Makalu last spring. Meanwhile we got word from Seduwa, so he was happy to be able to bring good news about the school. We will publish an update about the progress of our aid project soon.
