A Moment with the Butterflies

Experience a unique event where you can enjoy your favourite drink, surrounded by hundreds butterflies. Decreasing input prices will be offered for groups.

The tea room is open daily from 10:00 - 18:00, from the 15th July until the 03rd September 2017, and located at Knokke-Heist - From Wandelaar - Duinbergen (on the dam, 300m from the Casino). The entrance fee of € 12 includes access to the event and one free drink. Any additional drink will be charged at the price listed on the menu.

At the height of summer, Een Moment met Vlinders will allow v

isitors to experience a unique event: a venue where they can enjoy their favourite drink, surrounded by hundreds of flying butterflies. Encircled by exotic plants and butterflies, visitors will be able to admire species that live all around the world, from the Blue Morpho butterfly to the Owl butterfly. The elegant cafe surroundings encourage visitors to relax and enjoy their beverage of choice: be it tea, coffee, soft drinks, juice, a glass of wine, champagne or fine Belgium beer. Een Moment met Vlinders is designed to recreate an ecosystem that perfectly suits the needs of these ephemeral beings. Butterflies are delicate creatures and very sensitive to climate change, which is why the scientific management of Een Moment met Vlinders has been entrusted to the entomologist Laurian Parmentier, a researcher at the University of Ghent. After the success of Een Moment met Vlinders in Rome and Florence, visitors of Knokke are not only invited to enjoy a drink, but to also learn about the fascinating life cycle of butterflies, and the need to protect these little creatures, as the destruction of their habitat and increasing air pollution makes them particularly vulnerable.

Fermeture anticipée de l’exposition
« A moment with the butterflies »

Pour des raisons administratives liées à l'occupation de l'espace, Exhibition Hub est au regret d’annoncer la fermeture de l'exposition "A Moment with the Butterflies" organisée en collaboration avec la commune de Knokke-Heist et qui était initialement prévue jusqu'au 2 septembre sur la promenade du Wandelaar.

L’exposition qui accueillait des centaines de papillons colorés venus des quatre coins du monde avait pour objectif de sensibiliser le public aux enjeux environnementaux et à leur impact sur les insectes. En effet, tout comme les abeilles, les papillons sont aujourd’hui victimes des changements climatiques et de l’intensification des pratiques agricoles, ce qui menacent leur existence quotidiennement.

Toute l’équipe du projet déplore cette décision et rappelle qu’il s’agissait de la troisième édition ; les deux précédentes s’étant déroulées dans des conditions optimales. Comme chaque année, les organisateurs avaient été rejoints par un groupe d’experts chargés d’assurer le bon déroulement de l’événement.

En effet, afin d’assurer le bien-être de ces hôtes ailés aux attentes très spécifiques, le jardin tropical se composait de nombreuses plantes exotiques, choisies pour leur mode de culture biologique, sans pesticides. Pour assurer le respect de ce strict cahier des charges, mais également fournir toutes les recommandations et explications nécessaires, une experte en botanique avait rejoint l’équipe.

Parallèlement, comme lors des précédentes éditions, un entomologiste à l’Université de Gand, avait la responsabilité scientifique du projet. Ce dernier avait la mission de veiller au bien-être des différentes espèces présentes dans le jardin.
