This is my first raku firing up close and personal. Denis Di Luca (Denis Di Luca) very kindly fired a vase of mine at the recent and rather amazing ClayZieFest. I was intrigued to watch his calm and intense technique, conjuring flame and rapid ignition and cooling to pierce the glaze in super-complex networks of carbonised threads. He left the bottom half unglazed to preserve the rapid set of incisions I’d made in the clay. They got filled with a wonderful metallic black colour. It was sudden and furious and I can imagine returning to this.

The perfect ending to four days of ceramic madness.

Four people. One wheel. One pot. And a lot of trust.

Under the guidance of José Mariscal, and together with Denis Di Luca, we somehow managed to bring this pot to life, four pair of hands at a time.

Chaotic, beautiful, completely improvised… and exactly the kind of moment ClayZieFest is all about.

A finale we won’t forget.

**ClayZieFest 2026 • Official Aftermovie**

Four days of ceramic madness. Four days filled with clay, fire, creativity, inspiration and connection.

The very first edition of ClayZieFest brought ceramic artists, makers, partners and clay lovers from all over the world together in Geel, Belgium.

From inspiring demonstrations and masterclasses to spectacular firings, spontaneous encounters and unforgettable back-to-back sessions ClayZieFest became everything we hoped it would be, and more.

A huge thank you to all the incredible artists, our partners, our wonderful team and volunteers, and of course every single visitor who joined us and helped create the unique atmosphere of this first edition.

This was ClayZieFest 2026.
