For 1,500 years, Pompeii lay buried ⏳🌋

To put that in perspective:
That's longer than the time between today and the fall of the Roman Empire.
Longer than the entire Middle Ages.
Over 60 generations came and went without ever knowing a city existed beneath their feet.

Forgotten. Silent. Waiting.

Then, in 1748, the first excavations began. A world frozen in time finally saw the sun again.

Walk through that world before it closes.

Did you know? 🏛️

Pompeii is home to the oldest surviving amphitheater in the world—built around 70 BC, centuries before the Colosseum in Rome ⚔️

And that’s not all. Pompeii is actually the world’s largest archaeological site, covering a staggering 150 acres—only about two-thirds of which has been excavated so far. The rest still waits beneath the earth!

The iconic red of Pompeii wasn’t always red🎨🔴

Many of the city’s famous frescoes—including those in the Villa of the Mysteries—were originally painted in ochre yellow. Then came the eruption. The intense heat of Vesuvius transformed the yellow pigment into a fiery red that became Pompeii’s signature color.

Today, Pompeiian red still defines the city’s aesthetic—a color born from art, chemistry, and catastrophe.

See it for yourself in our immersive Villa of Mysteries experience.

📅 79 AD. For centuries, we believed Vesuvius erupted on August 24—based on Pliny the Younger’s account.

But archaeologists now question that date 🍂🍇

Clothing, preserved food, and autumnal fruits found in the ash suggest a colder season, possibly October or November.

The debate continues… but one thing is certain: the city was frozen in time.

Come see the evidence for yourself.
