A year after winning the National Audience Award in Clermont-Ferrand, « Two People Exchanging Saliva » went on to the Oscars — where it won the prize for Best Live Action Short Film! 🏆

But before its Academy Award, during the ESFAA Tour 2025–2026, we had the chance to speak with co-writer and director Natalie Musteata.

The film is an absurdist tragedy set in a world where a kiss can get you killed, and transactions are sealed with a slap. We follow Angine, a deeply unhappy woman drifting through a department store, until she becomes captivated by a salesgirl. As their connection intensifies, suspicion begins to grow around them.

Blending dark satire with emotional tension, the film draws inspiration from the rise of authoritarianism and the women’s movement in Iran, highlighting the unsettling absurdities shaping our reality.

Discover more about the short film in our exclusive interview, where Natalie Musteata discusses the origins of the film and its unique festival journey.
