Swiss WTC practice time!

30/04/2020

Dear all,

We would like to inform you that for now we are still on track to host the WTC2020 in October in Austria. In about a month we should have a better visibilty on what governments worldwide decide and/or advise in terms of travelling abroad. Please know that these are very uncertain times and we are trying to organize the WTC the best way we can. However, we strongly suggest you to book flights with a refund or flexible dates. As an organization we have the possibility to postpone the event to March 2021 from a hotel point of view, this will only be done/decided when there is for example a second Corona lockdown after summer. Please continue to pay your participation fees by the 1st of June (we know some of you might be reluctant to do this now, but really, worst case we have two WTC's in 2021, one with Apres Ski included). We will send out a new communication in the first week of June.

Thank you all and take care!

We will play one game a week via Vassal on quite a competitive level... Anyone up for it, pls register by the end of the week. I'll check if there are also other players interested via the WTC/Vassal FB groups :)

Heyas Coaches

So recently, we did a survey for the Team Tournament Tiebreakers, to captains and key-persons of our beloved sport. The results are in favor of Strength of Schedule as a first tiebreaker. We've contacted Sam Bredeson from Longshanks about this result, and he will be implementing these changes in the course of the following months. And end result is required, but we'll most likely be rewarding all X-1 performance at the end of the weekend, because all second places are a feat to show off :-)

In other news, we'll be releasing the rules-pack in the course of this weekend, so that pre-registration can begin.

Onward with the show!

Organizing a WTC, even a Guildball one, is a tall task. That is something we have to acknowledge. When we, the Slovenia-Austrian organization team, set out to take over and did the groundwork, we quickly found out that our projected hotels in and around of Maribor (Slovenia) were not able to provide what we needed.

It was either the number of available rooms, the meeting rooms for the tournament itself, or they were just unable to make a competitive offer that would enable us to keep the admission fee as stable as possible.

Furthermore we made a decision that would increase the amount of participants inevitably. NO we are not going five-man teams ... at least not in 2020!

Instead, we decided to increase the amount of teams up to sixty-four and thus guarantee a six-round event.

Speaking of: We heard your feedback from last year and will move away from the three games on Saturday and three games on Sunday and will schedule for a more dense four games on Saturday and two games on Sunday. This will enable us to finish the event early on Sunday and make it easier for everyone who wants to depart on that very day.

Speaking of traveling ...

I maybe could have lead with the location, ah well. I can still do it now, no? We will all meet in the lovely Sporthotel am Semmering in Semmering, Austria (very creative, I know).

The Semmering is easy to reach from the Vienna Airport (your fly-in location of choice!). The preferable options are:

a direct train connection that will get you there, without having to change trains, within roughly one hour and forty-five minutes
a rental car from the airport and a one-hour drive
If you arrive by train we will have a local taxi company shuttle you between the train station and the hotel, unless you prefer to enjoy the fifteen-minute walk.

Oh, and one more thing:

The event will take place on the weekend of the sixteenth October (Oct 16-18) 2020.

We did decide for this date for several reasons, with not overlapping the WMHO WTC or the SPIEL fair in Germany being the most important.

To summarize:

Date: October 16-18, 2020
Venue: Austria, Semmering
4 Games on Saturday, 2 Games on Sunday
Looking forward to see you all in Austria!

Hi all,

Since there was only one candidate to become a WTC committee member, we don't need to vote :)

Jeroen Schoonbrood has been playing wargames for 17 years now, started with Warhammer 40K and has played a lot of other tabletop miniature games ever since.

He started hosting events about 8 years ago and was very active in the Dutch Flames of War scene, for which he helped to host the Dutch Nationals twice. Now, he is doing the same for Guild Ball, hosting the Dutch Nationals later this year.

His personal motivation caused a bit of a shock, but hey, who are we to condradict the man's theory. We quote "I want to help the 2 most sexiest Belgium GB players I know ;) but I believe my background as a quality assurance employee can really help to streamline the event in total."

We are happy to have him in our team! Welcome Jeroen!

Yours truly,
Steve, Kim, Skerolf & Jan
