ULAB Film Club

It concentrates on films of acknowledged quality and achievements. With the help of the Director of Media Studies and Journalism (MSJ) Dr. Brian Shoesmith, the Club was founded in October 2006 by 1st Batch MSJ student G. The Film Club shows 1 movie per week. Before the screenings, either the president or Dr. Shoesmith talk a little bit about the movie, its cast, director etc and sometimes during

the movie we pause and talk about the shots, the acting etc to give the members a clear idea about film-making techniques. Other than film screenings, the club was the first club to organize a concert in ULAB during the Spring 2007 Orientation. We also organized the first ever fashion show in the Club Day Spring 2007, and a comedy stage drama in this Summer 2007. Of course the Film Club is also the club to organize the first-ever Film Festival in this Summer 07 semester, which included the Director of Academic Affairs Dr. Kazi Anis Ahmed as the Chief Guest and over 300 captivated audiences! The club also screened the heart touching documentary movie DESHANTORI and introduced the youth activist group PHIRIYE ANO BANGLADESH to ULAB! Mission:

The ULAB Film Club is essentially a group of people dedicated to the appreciation of classic cinema and the art of filmmaking. All of us here share the common goal of ultimately igniting the flames of passion through the art of film in all ULABians. Vision:

The goal that the ULAB Film Club strives to achieve is to provide a platform for film-oriented students and scholars to further pursue their craft. Opening the floor for passionate discourse and creative expression and handing all those who are interested the tools they need to actualize their vision is what the Film Club is all about. Objectives:

To establish a helpful community of like-minded students who can help each other appreciate the art of cinema

To provide educational opportunities for young filmmakers and ULABians to engage in and learn from

To promote the spirit of cinema and filmmaking through activities such as film festivals, screenings, and original productions

Activities:

Weekly screenings of culturally and artistically relevant films and consequent analysis and discourse

Film festivals would aim to showcase topics and themes and shine spotlights on underrepresented sectors like amateur directors

Organizing and actualizing field trips to relevant locations and fostering understanding through outdoor activities (e.g. trip to BFDC)
