AORRA Engine Capacity Rule Change Applications Voting Results - September 2024

Two rule change applications were recently processed focusing on key aspects of our Off Road Competition Technical and Class Structure.

Class 4, Class 5, Class 8, and Ultimate Vehicles:
Currently, the regulations stipulate that vehicles in the Ultimate Class, Class 4, Class 5, and Class 8 must have an engine capacity (including any turbo/supercharging, rotary, and/or diesel correction factors) not exceeding 6000cc. The proposed change increases the limit of naturally aspirated engines to 7000cc +1% for these vehicles.

Class 2 Vehicles:
Currently, Class 2 vehicles have an engine capacity (including any turbo/supercharging, rotary, and/or diesel correction factors) not exceeding 1650cc. The proposed change was to increase this limit to 1800cc

Voting Results:
Ultimate: Yes 78.95%, No 21.05%
Class 4: Yes 68.42%, No 31.58%
Class 5: Yes 80.00%, No 20.00%
Class 8: Yes 71.43%, No 28.57%
Class 2: Yes 30.77%, No 69.23%

Outcome:
With these results, the proposed changes to Ultimate, Class 4, Class 5, and Class 8 have been approved by the competitors , while the proposed change for Class 2 was not approved during the voting process.

Effective from 2025:
Class 4, Class 5, Class 8 and Ultimate vehicles can now have a naturally aspirated engine capacity not exceeding 7000cc +1%. Forced induction engines will remain the same with a swept volume of 6000cc plus 1% and a 1.7 correction factor.
Class 2: The engine capacity limit will remain unchanged at 1650cc.

Thank you to all competitors and clubs who participated in the voting process!

Normally at this time of year we're announcing nominations opening in a couple of weeks - instead, we find ourselves hearing the sad news of the passing of Simon Barnes over the weekend. Simon gave many years to the winch challenge and offroad racing scene as a marshal. You could never miss him in his embroidered "MARSHAL" hi vis work clothes! May he rest in peace.

Hey fans, due to the fires in the area of the lowmead 3 car challange, the decision to put people's safety and the hurting and exhausted community first has seen the event postponed to April 12th 2024.
I was prepared with jerky so there will be plenty if you wish to order any and I can post.
There is: chilli bites, chukaluka, Bilton bites, and smokey. $10 a bag, plus $15 postage.

We are looking to sign up a few more helpers/ course marshals for our Mount Larcom event on the 29th & 30th of this month!

This is a single car winch challenge with stages on Saturday, Saturday night & Sunday morning. (You don’t need to assist for the whole weekend if you can’t).

We have just under 20 teams nominated to compete and being a stage marshal is a great way to get front row seats to watch the action!

Please message the page if you can help or have any questions. 👍
