The lone flame. Broker's Nose, Corrimal NSW.
It looks like today, but this was captured 2 years ago, where the flame tree is the centerpiece of the upper escarpment rainforest.
Broker's Nose is a prominent mountain on the Illawarra Escarpment range, it was previously called Mount Corrimal named after Kurrimul an Aboriginal warrior, and over time Broker's Nose became an affectionate name with the locals. Some say the name came from the rock face that looks a bit like a broken nose and others say the name came about from the nearby Brookers brothers' farm. I think the latter is more probable.
The township of Corrimal is named after the Aboriginal warrior called Kurrimul and Corrimal is a slight mis-translation between the early settlers and the local Indigenous people.
This is an Aboriginal dreamtime story about Corrimal and Broker's Nose:
There once was an Aboriginal warrior named Kurrimul who took another man's wife. The husband pursued Kurrimul up the mountain to the top of Broker's Nose where Kurrimul climbed up a tall tree on top of the mountain. The husband gathered wood and set the tree on fire. Kurrimul was carried high up into the sky, in the flames where Kurrimal's star appeared above the mountain.
Did you know Streets Icecream started in Corrimal in 1920 by Edwin Street. The factory was located on Tarrawanna Road behind the Ampol, where Plus Fitness is today.
