Today is National Sorry Day.

Wise Women Gathering acknowledge the ancestors of place, the Elders who have carried culture, knowledge and resistance across generations, and the younger leaders calling strongly for truth, justice, sovereignty and the protection of Country.

Our work is held in the context of deep sorrow for the ongoing devastation colonisation has wrought across this continent through displacement, violence, cultural disruption and systems designed to sever people from land, kinship, language and relational ways of living.

Long before settler women called them circles, retreats or Conferences, women gathered on these lands.
Sacred women’s space is not new. Many of us are learning how to approach it again with greater humility, responsibility and care.

This land continues to carry ancient and living knowledges; health practices, ceremonial traditions and deeply relational ways of understanding life.

National Sorry Day is not only about the past.
It is also about the ongoing realities First Nations peoples continue to face now, and the responsibility all of us carry in how we choose to live, work, gather and relate.

May we continue listening.
May we continue learning.
May we continue choosing forms of life that uphold the dignity, wellbeing and sovereignty of First Nations peoples across this continent and Indigenous peoples across the world.

As part of National Volunteer Week, today we’re celebrating the women who help care for the practical heartbeat of Wise Women Gathering.

The women serving meals, helping clean up after meals and special moments, supporting Kids Camp and Maidens spaces, carrying supplies, resetting rooms between sessions and helping things keep moving behind the scenes.

This work shapes the entire experience of the Conference. Care becomes visible in warm food, clean spaces, stocked bathrooms, prepared rooms and children who feel supported while their mothers attend sessions.

To every vollie who contributed this year, thank you for the steadiness, generosity and effort you brought to the land.

If there’s a volunteer you’re grateful for, we’d love to hear about her in the comments.
