SHARK & FOX (AUSTRALIA/CANADA)
Propelled by accordion pumping through the subs, twanging gourd banjo licks on a fretless children’s Stratocaster, vintage synths controlled by a violin, and an Argentinian bombo fashioned into a drum kit, “Shark & Fox” hide their toughest questions inside a pile of murder ballads, moving sideways through the traditional building blocks of music, in search of the shortcut to your heart. Shark & Fox consists of Canada’s Jaron Freeman-Fox on violin, 12-string viola d’amore, and fretless guitar, Australia’s Music By Emily-Rose Sharkova on accordion and keyboards, and Rose Callaghan on the drums, with all three members lending their voices in a collective roar, or intricate harmony.
GAMELAN DANANDA
Gamelan DanAnda is a Balinese gamelan orchestra based in Melbourne. They mostly perform traditional Gong Kebyar, featuring shimmering cascades, virtuosic rhythms and breathtaking crescendos. With a community orchestra at their core, they move easily from community gatherings to major festivals. Teaching, preserving and presenting tradition, while fostering wild contemporary fusions. At The River Folk Presents: Stringmania & Friends they will be joined by guest artists from Bali master musician and composer Yande King's, and dancer Putu Ayu Lestari.
STRINGMANIA
Stringmania camp is an immersive residential camp for musicians who are passionate and curious about traditional and contemporary string music. Stringmania is for people who seek musical, cultural, and personal enrichment through the support of an open minded, vibrant and inclusive community, providing a forum to explore our identity as multicultural Australian musicians. The camp culminates in a celebratory public concert where everyone takes to the stage to share what’s been created with the local community, friends and family - hosted this year in partnership with The River Folk Festival for the second time.
THE SEDUCEAPHONES
Since bursting onto the scene in 2014, The Seduceaphones have been redefining brass band music with their electrifying energy and pioneering sound. Based in Melbourne, this 8-piece ensemble has become a crowd favourite at festivals across Australia, delivering a genre-defying fusion of brass party beats. The Seduceaphones have a proud history of captivating audiences at some of Australia’s most iconic events.
LILY & KING
Melbourne duo Lily and King are an acoustic junkyard - blissful, beautiful, dirty and wicked. They play hot Dixieland punk dotted with haunting seaside lullabies and street corner stomp. Their set sits somewhere between a captivating 40's nightclub routine and the raw, reckless spirit of New Orleans street buskers. With a toy piano, squashed trombone, banjo, violin, half a drum kit and one old guitar, a Lily & King show is a wild and joyful experience.
See you there!
