Flinders Region Girl Guides - Townsville

Flinders Region Girl Guides - Townsville Girl Guides are found in 5 districts in Townsville, Mount Isa and Charters Towers. What is Guides, what do we do? Where and when do we meet?

That is hard to summarize in a few words – for different ages it is different things. For the younger girls (5-10 years old) we camp, do some craft, cook, fun outdoors activities etc. This is a time for girls to start becoming independent – they have to take responsibility for themselves. For Girls aged 10-18, they are provided more opportunities to camp, different and more extensive outdoor activ

ities (flying fox, low ropes, canoeing, rock climbing to name a few). They are also more involved in the planning and running of activities. This is when they develop even more leadership and life skills, working together in a team (patrol) to achieve success. They are also able to complete Duke of Edinburgh and other peak achievement awards, which are recognized outside of Guiding, and some can be counted on their final school certificates. There are districts all over Townsville, meeting at a variety of times – it really depends on where you live, your other commitments, the age of your daughter(s) and the style of leadership the unit has.

Wednesday night the Aitkenvale Girl Guides & Rangers challenged themselves by hiking down the Cutheringa Track from the top of Castle Hill to our meeting point in Gregory Street, North Ward. Before descending Aquila & Kalira renewed their Girl Guide promise as Leaders with the bright lights of Townsville as a back drop.

Big impact starts with one person saying ‘Yes!’ 🌟

At Girl Guides, volunteers help girls and young women grow in confidence, take on challenges, build friendships and discover their potential – and it all starts with people willing to show up and make a difference.

You don’t need to have all the answers or endless free time to volunteer. Sometimes, the smallest moments of encouragement can leave the biggest impact. ☀️🌈✨

If you’ve ever thought about volunteering, this could be your sign to start the conversation. Because big impact really does start with you.

Happy Thinking Day
Flinders Region Girl Guides celebrated 100 years of Thinking Day at our Bluewater Campsite, with 60 girls and their Leaders coming together for a fantastic day of friendship and fun 💙

The girls enjoyed a range of activities based on this year’s theme, Our Friendship, and it sounds like the highlight of the day was definitely the cake! 🎂

We were also lucky to have beautiful weather, making it a truly special celebration for everyone involved.
