Trainer Jeff Caught, who grew up exercising pacers on the hill with his late father Ray, has breathed new life into the old place. It’s a perfect horse getaway for his small team which is permanently stabled on course at the Cluden racetrack complex.

And it’s working a treat for Caught’s main carnival contender Central Park.

Wulguru trainer Matt McGuire is keeping his carnival options open with under-rated galloper Going Nuclear as his winter campaign continues at Cluden Park on Sunday.

The consistent five-year-old is strongly fancied in the Vale Shane McGovern Open Hcp (1400m) after eye-catching placings at his past two starts.

Townsville Turf Club proudly presents North Queensland’s largest Fashions Series as part of our spectacular 2026 Winter Racing Carnival.

With over $60,000 in total prize value up for grabs across the Carnival, this exciting new format sets a bold benchmark for race day fashion in the region.

Spanning three of our biggest events 2-Year Old Classic Race Day, Ladies Day, and the Townsville Cup, Fashions on the Field will shine a spotlight on the very best in race day style. Competitors will take to the stage in their most striking, creative and show-stopping ensembles, turning heads and raising the bar for trackside glamour.

Winners from each race day in both the Classic and Contemporary categories will earn their place in the prestigious Fashions Series Final. There, they’ll compete for the ultimate Grand Prize $10,000 cash plus an unforgettable trip to a day at the Melbourne Spring Carnival, including flights, accommodation, and exclusive access to one of Australia’s most iconic racing events.
