One Year On: A Tribute to Our Club, Our Community, and Our Legacy
Today marks one year since the devastating fire that left our historic club inaccessible to our community. While the damage was limited, ongoing restrictions have prevented us from returning to the place where family, friends, the community and generations have gathered for decades.
In the aftermath of this tragedy, there have been several concerning attempts to alter the future of our beloved community icon without proper transparency. Despite less than 30% of the building being damaged, obstacles have been placed in the way of its restoration and preservation. These challenges have made it increasingly difficult for us to reclaim and protect this important part of our heritage.
Yet, our commitment remains unwavering. We stand united in our determination to safeguard our club’s legacy and ensure it remains a place for generations to come.
Our club is more than just bricks and mortar. It was built with the hands and hearts of our founders—post-war immigrants who came to Australia seeking a better life. They created this club as a home away from home, a place where friendships were forged, where love stories began, and where families grew. Generations gathered here, bound by tradition, laughter, and an unbreakable sense of belonging.
Since the fire, we have mourned the loss of cherished members—people who held onto the hope that our club would rise again. Though they are no longer with us, we carry their spirit with us and dreams forward. We continue this fight in their memory, for our current members, for our children, and for the future of our community.
Until the day we can once again call our club home, we remain its guardians. We will continue to cherish it, protect it, and keep its spirit alive. Because our club is more than just a building—it is the heart of our community, and that heart will never stop beating.
