Joe’s Run 2024 7 marathons, 7 days, 7 states

7 MARATHONS, 7 DAYS, 7 STATES - DONE ✅

Gold Coast marathon to finish!

What a week that has been.

Myself & Stephen Lynch have just completed our biggest challenge this year in which we ran 7 marathons in 7 days across 7 different states in Australia in aid of Bravehearts charity.

This has by far been one of the toughest weeks we've ever had, getting up early, when the body is sore and the minds tired and having to run another marathon before then getting to the airport to fly to the next destination and go again..

👉Days 1 & 2 we kept a good pace and enjoyed it.

👉Day 3 - unfortunately I came down with a really painful injury in my knee (which l've had before and kinda had going into it), so this made things extra tough.

From then on in my back was against the wall and I knew it was going to be a long week.

Mentally it drained me knowing I had to get up and go again with awful pain.

But I promised myself l'd do the full 777 regardless of how i feel.

There's something super powerful in saying you're going to do something & then actually fully carrying that out, against all the barriers in front of you.

As I always say... set goals, stay disciplined & reap the rewards.

Learnt a hell of a lot this week & am super grateful for all the support 💛🙌

So far we’ve raised $22k and the link will remain open for the next few days.

Day 6/7 ✅ Canberra Marathon ✅

Tough tough day out there today again.

The knees are cooked & the body is tired.

Just struggled to get much food & good rest into me this last day or so.

But I was there to do a job, and I got it done🙌

ON A MORE POSITIVE NOTE - MYSELF & Stephen Lynch ONLY HAVE 1 MORE MARATHON LEFT until we complete the 777 ultra marathon.

Gold Coast, you are getting it tomorrow👊

DAY 5/7 ✅ Sydney marathon ✅ SYD turned it right on!

What a fu***ng day that was.

Been such a tough slog these past few days, but getting back to Sydney and having the support of everyone there gave myself Stephen Lynch such a buzz!

These things are never easy, but the fact that in my friendship circle I have people around me who will openly volunteer to run over 20-30k with me is crazy.
And people who have never really ran before, putting in 5-10k in too.

What a group🙌

Today will be remembered for a long long time.

Onto Canberra tomorrow!🙌

Day 4/7 ✅ Tasmania Marathon ✅

I was super apprehensive about this one, especially after the stress I had yesterday with my knee!

We arrived in Tassie about 9pm last night and I couldn’t believe how cold it was 😂❄️

Getting up at 5am meant it was absolutely freezing outside and around -2 degrees on the start line🥶

Turns out I was right to be apprehensive ^^, as soon as I started running my knee would give me such bad pain and lead me to doubt myself for the rest of the run…

But I decided there’s no way I was pulling out, especially considering how far I’ve came over the last few days. So I got to 10k in (just) and asked the medic for painkillers, and just decided to get my hood up, head down and music blasting to get me through it.

Stephen Lynch somehow managed to stay beside me the whole way and we both managed to complete the Tassie Marathon.

Again, like I say. “If you can, you must!”

No matter how much pain I’m in over the next few days, the regret of pulling out would be worse.

Onto Sydney tomorrow and can’t wait to see some familiar faces 🙌💛

Day 3/7 - Melbourne Marathon ✅ “if you can, you must”

Another one in the bag today!🙌

I had high hopes for today, felt good when I woke up and was keen to smash it.

That changed instantly as soon as started the race as my knee just completely blew up..

Only about 5k in too..

I’ve had this knee injury before and it’s had me out for months, so knowing the pain it was, my mood just shifted terribly, especially as it was so so early into the marathon..

I could barely walk for abit, never mind run!

I ended up being just by myself, plodding along and just getting so frustrated/ upset (swipe to see pic haha)

Anyway,

I got back to the aid station, took some painkillers and got it strapped up, before heading back out and trying again..

Still being in absolute agony, I just remembered seeing some woman yesterday on our 2nd marathon who was doing 14k in crutches, and I just thought if she’s pushing through that, I needed to get through this!

A quote from a book told me about also really got me going again

‘If you can, you must’

The painkillers kicked in and my mindset just switched, leading me smash out the rest of the marathon!

Anyway, job done. Not nice, but it’s done.

Onto the 4th one tomorrow in Tasmania! 🙌

19.5k donated. 4K to go! 👉👉 link here:

2/7 🙌 DAY 2 - Adelaide Marathon ✅

This was a backs against the wall job.

Landing in Adelaide around 11pm and not being able to sleep, before getting up at 5am and going again for the second marathon of our 7, in our second state.

Just got the head down with Stephen Lynch and kept positive throughout.

Certainly isn’t easy backing it up, but nothing worth doing ever is easy!

Thanks to all those that are donating over these days💛

Now time to fly to Melbourne and smash out day 3!

32km (20 miles) in the bag today!

Currently on holiday in Portugal with friends and family that I’ve not seen in ages due to living in Australia- as you can imagine, the last thing I wanted to do is go for a 32km run by myself in boiling hot Portugal haha!

Certainly isn’t easy to navigate where I’m going with poor signal too😂

Need to stay disciplined and keep plugging away where I can and also enjoy the time with my friends too.

Time to have a few beers with everyone and find that balance, enjoy being with people I’ve not been with for years 🙌 🍻

Any donations would be hugely appreciated as I’m 5 weeks away from running 7 marathons in 7 days across 7 states.

You either find ways to do things, or find excuses why not too.

56k (36 miles) over the last 4 days 🏃‍♂️🙌

A strong 30k in the bag today, 10k being with Liam Gibson!

This past 10 days been a really tough period being back in the UK from Australia. I’ve been trying to find some balance but really struggling to fit it all in.

I wanted to make sure whilst I’m such a long way away, that when I’m back I also prioritise seeing my friends & family and doing things I’m not usually able to do with them.

This last 4 days runs have been:
👉Monday: 10k
👉Tuesday: 6k
👉Wednesday:10k
👉Thursday: 30k
Total 🟰 56k

Now I’d usually split these over the 7 day period, but as my best friend is having his stag do this Thursday, I made sure I prioritised getting the heavy lifting done before hand. As much as I really don’t want to be running that volume daily.

Again, it’s certainly not an ideal approach but being flexible with your training is vital.

I’m now 6 weeks out from my 7 marathons in 7 days across the 7 states of Australia🇦🇺

Any donations massively appreciated as I look to raise 22k for child abuse.

Sydney HOKA half marathon this morning!🙌

Very pleased with the result, it’s been a good while since I’ve done any shorter yet faster stuff and it was nice to get the legs turning over again & smash out a PB!👏

With a bit more specific training I’d be confident I could get than sub 1:30! Very pleased nonetheless!😊

Flying home to the UK this Thursday & currently 8 weeks out before I begin the 7 marathons across 7 states in 7 days! 🥶

If you’d like to donate, see below as I’m trying to raise 22k for child abuse!👇
