Today we want to honor a man who left a real mark on the music world Brian Hill , Bubble Up's Guitar Works .

Brian wasn’t just a guitar tech.

He was one of those rare people who kept big bands alive behind the scenes.
He worked countless shows, tours, and moments that became part of music history.
And when he stepped away from the big stages, he built his own repair shop a place filled with stories, wood, sound, and soul.He was a special friend.
A genuine human being.
A craftsman with a sharp eye for detail and a heart that understood music from the inside out.I learned about his passing three days ago, and it hit hard.
Brian may be gone, but the instruments he touched will keep playing.
The musicians he helped will keep creating.
And the people who knew him will carry his memory with respect.Rest easy, my friend.
Your work lives on.
Your presence won’t be forgotten.

The Olympus Guitars team Darrin Pruitt , Konstantinos Panis and myself Johnny Prapas we wish strength and courage to his partner, Michelle, and ours deepest condolences to her during this difficult time.

Rest in Heaven brother 🙏 💔

Olympus Guitars
The Art of Character Wood:Two Decades Ahead of the Industry

Introduction:
For more than twenty years, Olympus Guitars has embraced a philosophy that challenges conventional standards in guitar building: the belief that natural wood “imperfections” are not flaws, but features of authenticity, individuality, and artistic value.
Long before the global industry shifted toward exotic tops, character woods, and visually striking natural anomalies, Olympus Guitars was already crafting instruments that celebrated the raw beauty of nature.
Today, as major manufacturers promote
knotted, cracked, spalted, and highly figured woods under premium labels such as Private Stock and Master Grade, the market has finally aligned with a vision Olympus Guitars pioneered decades earlier.

A Vision Ahead of Its Time

In the early 2000s, the guitar industry was dominated by a strict adherence to “international standards” flawless maple tops, symmetrical grain patterns, and factory‑perfect surfaces.
Any deviation from this aesthetic was considered unsuitable for professional instruments.

During this period, Olympus Guitars introduced bodies featuring:
natural knotsdeep grain fracturesirregular figuringbold,
organic visual textures

These choices were met with resistance. Traditionalists viewed such woods as defective, and many dismissed the approach as unconventional or non‑standard.

Yet Olympus Guitars recognized something deeper:
these woods carried character, history, and uniqueness that no flawless top could replicate.

The Industry Shift

By the mid‑2010s, global demand began to change. Players sought individuality over uniformity, authenticity over perfection. Boutique builders and major brands alike started embracing the very materials they once rejected.

Today, companies across the world promote:

Character Tops
Exotic and Spalted Woods
Live‑Edge Designs
Void‑Filled and Burl Structures
Cracked and Knotted Maple

These features, once considered imperfections, are now marketed as premium, exclusive, and highly collectible often at significant price points.

What was once unconventional is now celebrated.

What was once criticized is now a trend.
And what Olympus Guitars pioneered has become an industry standard.

Why Character Wood Matters

Character wood offers qualities that flawless tops cannot:

Uniqueness: No two pieces are ever identical.

Visual depth: Natural anomalies create striking, organic patterns.

Authenticity: The wood tells its own story.

Artistic value: Imperfection becomes design.

Identity: Each instrument becomes a true one‑of‑one creation.

These attributes align perfectly with the Olympus Guitars philosophy:
every guitar should be as unique as the musician who plays it.

Olympus Guitars Today

As the industry embraces the aesthetic Olympus Guitars championed decades ago, the company continues to refine and elevate its craft.

Character wood is not a trend for us it is part of our DNA.

Our instruments remain defined by:

meticulous craftsmanship
respect for natural materials
innovative finishing techniques
commitment to individuality
artistic interpretation of nature’s raw beauty

Olympus Guitars stands not as a follower of modern trends, but as a brand that helped shape them.

Conclusion

The evolution of the guitar market confirms a simple truth:

Olympus Guitars was ahead of its time.

What began as a bold, unconventional approach has become a celebrated global aesthetic.
And as the industry continues to explore the artistic potential of character wood, Olympus Guitars remains at the fore front honoring nature, craftsmanship, and originality with every instrument we create.

Olympus Custom Ultra‑Thin Optical Mirror Finish

In high‑end luthiery, a flawless finish is not merely aesthetic; it is a demonstration of engineering precision.
This instrument features an ultra‑thin, optically coherent film, applied and cured with the same discipline found in premium aerospace and fine‑instrument coatings.
The surface exhibits perfect specular reflection, achieved through micron‑level substrate preparation and a controlled flow‑out process that eliminates texture, distortion, and solvent entrapment.
The film settles as a single reflective plane, maintaining uniform refractive index and mechanical stability across the entire top.
There is no orange peel, no shrink‑back, and no tension gradients only a pure, uninterrupted mirror.
This level of clarity is the result of a repeatable, highly disciplined finishing protocol designed to preserve acoustic responsiveness while delivering a visually uncompromising surface.

This is the Olympus standard:

precision, purity, and a finish worthy of the world’s finest handcrafted instruments.
