MELBOURNE! Honestly all I can say is thank you. Thank you for being such an amazing crowd, for supporting this little event of mine, for signing and dancing all night, for being as passionate about this music as I am, and even thank you for the weather yesterday

Just a stunning afternoon of classic trance, honestly I meant it when I said at the end this was one of my favourite ever events. I had the most fun I can remember

Playing tracks that mean so much to me, that I have a personal emotional connection with, and then looking at the crowd and seeing people have that same moment, it's so special

I want to thank everyone who made yesterday possible, in particular Mike Nichol who absolutely destroyed on his closing set omg f**k that was good, but also they were his turntables he brought from home and dragged up all those stairs. King Karim played a proper proggy opening set, Pulvertum, Need to Feel Loved... So good.

Only 2 more days until Way Back When Melbourne!

Getting very excited now, I packed my record box last night, omg I thought Sat in Sydney was good but we've got an extra hour in Melb, a sunny rooftop, I'm bringing all the lasers, the sound system, and most importantly I'm bringing 7hrs of proper classic trance

This isn't a "classics" event where you hear those same 10 tracks you hear every single event, predictable, boring, good for the casuals

If you're a proper classics fan. If you really love your trance. Then this is the event for you

SYDNEY!!! Not everyone has to go to bed so early! Quite a few people have asked me about running the event a little later, so we have put a few extra hours on for you!

Once Jumping Jack finishes in the main room at 9pm, everyone head up to the rooftop and keep partying, we have classic trance legend THOMAS DATT playing for us, as well as our own WBW resident Simon Sayz coming on after, and if there's time I might join him for a cheeky B2B as well

Is there a more classic Anjunabeats name than that of Smith & Pledger?

No longer in action (allegedly something to do with a girl coming between them!) they were a crucial part of that early Anjuna sound

The tracks still live on today through Oliver Smith doing updates and remixes, he just updated Northern Lights last week in fact. But the original 138bpm tracks just hit different

Something I love about vinyl records, you ask the producers about them, and they can tell you a story about how they were made, the emotions at the time, early memories from them being played live

I saw a post on Insta the other day commemorating 20yrs since Ocallaghan & Kearney - Exactly. And there was Bryan Kearney in the comments, saying he remembers the moment he was in the crowd hearing Armin play it for the first time ("jaw swinging all over the place" 😂

I heard a similar story from Super8, I asked him about one of my favourite tracks and he remembers Armin seeing him in a club in Helsinki, and then playing his remix of Mirco De Govia - Voller Sterne, pointing at him and saying "great track!" 22yrs later he still remembers that moment

These tracks from Way Back When are special. I know they're special to us listeners, they take us back to moments from our early clubbing or festival days, moments with friends and loved ones. But they also mean so much to the people that made them, they put their heart and soul into these early productions.

And we're lucky enough to still hear them today at events like Way Back When ♥️

I've always prided WBW on not just playing the well known classics. There are plenty of "classics" events for that. I want you to experience the lessor known stuff that was played back in the day.

Maybe not every track was a "classic" that has remained popular for 20yrs, but when you hear them today, it's a brief transportation back in time, giving you a real feel for the era I think

This has always been one of my favourite Anjuna classics, it's the little known "Get Off" by Super8 (no Tab). It was massive for A&B back in the day. Super8 used to make really driving, banging tunes. Check out his Super8 Banging Mix of Time Goes By, for instance

WBW will always be more than just a "classics" set. Sandstorm. 9pm. Adagio. Repeat.

It's trance the way it used to be.
