Over the coming weeks, we’ll begin teasing out the makers, collaborators, performances, demonstrations and more that will shape ASSEMBLY.

Celebrating 20 years of supporting design-led craft, Gaffa Creative Precinct presents ASSEMBLY an activated exhibition and retail event forging contemporary makers across craft and design.

Objects to live with, use and share. Live demonstrations, considered making and the stories, skills and communities behind each work - extending craft beyond the white cube and into everyday ritual.

Celebrating 20 years of supporting design-led craft, Gaffa Creative Precinct presents ASSEMBLY. An activated exhibition and retail experience bringing together a curated cohort of contemporary makers working across craft and design.

Featuring collectible, functional and object-based works alongside live demonstrations, ASSEMBLY celebrates the processes, skills and stories behind contemporary making.

Designed to be lived with, used and shared, each object considers how craft shapes connection, hospitality and everyday ritual. Move beyond the white cube and join us for a month of immersion!

Marking Gaffa’s 20-year evolution as a creative precinct, ASSEMBLY continues our belief that meaningful cultural exchange flourishes between disciplines, makers and communities.

What sustains a contemporary jewellery practice? What ideas linger at the workbench long after the tools are put down?

Our latest Crafted Stories feature takes us to Tasmania’s State of Flux Workshop - a collaborative workshop, gallery and retail space nestled within the Salamanca Arts Centre precinct in nipaluna/Hobart. More than a studio, State of Flux has become a vital hub for contemporary jewellery and object-making, fostering connection, dialogue and exchange across local and international creative communities.

We sat down with collective members Trudi Brinckman, Anna Weber, Jane Hodgetts, Gabbee Stolp and Emma Bugg to discuss the influences, materials and questions that continue to shape their practices.

'By positioning flora as both instrument and ecosystem, Hana Denki proposes a contemporary reimagining of Japanese spatial practice - one that situates botanical composition within circuits of energy, frequency and collective experience. In this environment, nature does not merely symbolise life; it becomes electrically present, responsive and co-creative.'

Conductive Light Garden: A Circuit of the Senses

Featuring, Jessica Ticchio, 'WAITING FOR SPRING', 2025, Triptych; Digital animation loop projection. 3D-printed sculpture (sculpted in Virtual Reality) finished with Valleja metalic paint, glass and metal spheres, dimensions variable. Ambient sound design by Marli.

'The work lives in the intersection of nature and technology, reality and dream state; asking how digital tools can reshape our connection to the natural world and our sense of space and self. Drawing on organic rhythms, the VR sculptures blur the line between surreal and tangible, inviting reflection on belonging, dislocation and imagination in a world where digital and physical boundaries continue to increasingly converge.'

Drawing on the principles of Japanese ikebana, our installation transforms botanical material into an interactive sensory environment. Each stem, branch and bloom responds to human touch, producing an ever-changing composition shaped collectively by those who encounter it. Inspired by the Japanese Gutai movement's belief in the direct relationship between body and material, we encourage you to explore the space between nature and technology, intention and chance. The result is a poetic meeting of flower, sound and human presence - a work that asks not simply to be viewed, but played.
