Together, we’re building a fairer, more inclusive Inner West. 💛 Newtown Neighbourhood Centre (NNC) aims to build an inclusive, resilient, self-reliant and creative community. The Centre provides community support services to the local community and in particular the disadvantaged groups such as the aged, people with disabilities, people who are homeless, people with mental illness, people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds and people on low incomes.

We recently carved out a special moment to celebrate the people who make NNC what it is 🧡

We gathered over 18 of our incredible volunteers right here at Darley Street for a dinner to celebrate Volunteer Week, and honestly, the room was full of the best kind of energy ✨ The people in these photos give their time, their skills and their hearts to NNC week in, week out, and our community is stronger for it.

To every volunteer who showed up, and every one who shows up for us every single day - this one’s for you! We see you, we appreciate you, and we genuinely could not do this without you.

The Everyday Challenge 2026 is a wrap, and Newtown, you absolutely showed up! 🔥 17 legends. 95 donations. $8,638 raised.That's 287 grocery packs, 863 hot meals, and 86 weeks of emergency food relief for people in our community doing it tough.

Now you can see exactly what every dollar does, imagine what we could do together if we hit our goal of $15,000. The donation page is staying open until the end of June. If you've been thinking about giving, now is the perfect time. Every single dollar goes directly to food relief right here in the Inner West 🍎🍽️

Today we acknowledge National Sorry Day. 🖤💛❤️

26 May marks the anniversary of the Bringing Them Home report 👉 the first time Stolen Generations survivors could tell their stories and have their pain publicly acknowledged by this nation.

At Newtown Neighbourhood Centre, our commitment to First Nations justice runs deep. Through our Reconciliation Action Plan, our partnerships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, and our work with the Inner West Koori Interagency, we walk alongside community every day, not just today.

We honour the strength, resilience and survival of Stolen Generations survivors and their families. We acknowledge the ongoing impacts of colonisation and the healing that still needs to happen. This week is also the beginning of National Reconciliation Week. A time to listen. To learn. To act.

Always was, always will be Aboriginal land. 🙏

Today is World Day for Cultural Diversity 🌏 a moment to reflect on the role culture plays in shaping connection, identity and belonging 💞

We see this here every day! Whether it’s people sharing stories in their first language, connecting over music and food, or simply feeling understood in a space that respects their background, culture is often what brings people together. Australia is such a multicultural place, and we’re proud to be part of a community that brings people from all walks of life together.

A commitment that keeps giving 💛 Earlier this year, Chris Akkawi made a simple but powerful promise - $500 from every property sale in 2026 going directly towards supporting Newtown Neighbourhood Centre and our incredible community.

Every sale helps fund the work happening here every day, from housing support to helping our seniors feel more connected, youth services through to community care for people doing it tough in the Inner West.

We know how tough the housing situation is right now; this is just one small way we try to keep our community informed and connected to what’s out there. The list is updated every Wednesday and is based on listings from Domain, so we always recommend checking those sites directly too if you can.

Last month, we sat down with Jacqueline to hear more about her work at Newtown Hood Centre ☕️💬 From weekly social groups to outings filled with yoga, dance and connection, Jacqueline shows up every day with care, patience and a deep commitment to the community she supports.

As she shared, this work is about far more than activities; it’s about helping people feel seen, heard and connected. A big thank you to Jacqueline for everything you bring to NNC. We couldn’t do this work without you!
