It is with great disappointment that I report today we have been unable to secure the funds in time to host the 2023 ISU Four Continents Figure Skating event, now to be held in Colorado Springs, USA.
Due to some unexpected complications with the venue, in the middle of 2021 as the world began to emerge from COVID19, we were forced to transition the 2023 ISU Four Continents Figure Skating event from our confirmed venue in Sydney. After an extensive search, the working group elected to transition the event to the Gold Coast.
Over recent weeks we have been working closely with the City of Gold Coast to finalise the support needed to host the event. The city has been 100% supportive of the event from the outset and we thank them for their hard work, and we congratulate their vision shared with us to grow the sport in the region. However, at this point in time we have not been able to finalise an agreement with the City of Gold Coast and due to time constraints placed on the ISU they have elected to reallocate the event to the USA.
We understand that this decision needed to be made to ensure certainty for teams and athletes throughout the figure skating world and to secure the ongoing international success of the sport.
It has been a long journey to this point, and we have established some strong relationships with key partners along the way placing us in a firm position to restart discussions should the ISA Board consider the possibility of hosting the event in another year.
In the meantime, we wish US Figure Skating and the ISU well in hosting what we know will be an exceptional Four Continents Figure Skating Championships.
