Summerholm Invitational Recap – 2026 Edition!
WOMBATS – It took 13 heartbreaking attempts but Norm has finally found his way into the Wombat den! The men in orange were flawless in most aspects of the day, going 6/6 on the field and rarely looked in trouble. They belted 6 & Out in the first game of the day which sent shockwaves through neighbouring tents before easily accounting for the Emus, Dingos & Pelicans in their remaining pool games. The gas truck was backing up in the semi-final against the Pelicans as they made a meal of a small run chase before import Alex Welsh steered them home with a late order cameo for the ages. On to their 2nd consecutive GF they went and with Noah Emmerson out in the first over it looked to be history repeating itself - enter Clean Pickle (Dean Bichel). Pickle, a Summerholm stalwart, sent the Brumbies attack to all parts of the MCG, propelling the Wombats to the promised land.
BRUMBIES – Runners up. Started the day slowly as the Pelicans flexed their muscles early before clicking into gear and winning their last 3 pool games in a canter against Emus, Dingos & 6 & Out. They drew 6 & Out in the Semi-Final and with alcohol really starting to kick in for the boys in teal it shaped as an interesting encounter. 6 & Out set the Brumbies 110 to win and they looked gone for all money needing 53 off 3 overs at one point. It came down to 18 runs off 3 balls and from there it was the Hamish ‘Man Child’ Lee show, smoking 3 consecutive maximums to send the Brumbies into the GF. Unfortunately they couldn’t back it up shortly after and were no match for the Wombats. Definitely a team to watch in years to come…
PELICANS – Semi-Finalists again. This one will hurt the boys in Yellow. They belted the Brumbies & Victas early doors but had their pants pulled down by the Sheilas (they wish) soon after. A loss to the Wombats followed which sent them to a Super Over against the Dingos to determine who would get the last Semi spot. They made it through & had the Wombats on the canvas before fading late to crash out in the semi’s for a record 9th time! If they can entice Callum Woolacott back in 2027 the drought could be broken!
6 & OUT – Semi Finalists. A below par day for 6 & Out it has to be said. Pumped by the Wombats early on & took their frustration out on the poor old Sheilas & Victas before the Brumbies wiped the floor with them in the final pool game. Snuck into the Semi’s after defeating the Emus in a Super Over Play-off game and were drawn to play the Brumbies again in the 1st Semi-Final of the day. They had this game for the taking before some individual brilliance sealed their fate. Finished the day with 2 wins from 5 games – expecting a postmortem into this one…
DINGOS – Plate Final. Who would’ve thought the Dingos would start the day with a tie with a boat race victory over the Victas – wouldn’t read about it! They followed that up with trademark (that’s not a good thing) performances against the Pelicans & Wombats before taking down the Sheila’s in a tight on. They had a chance at Semi-Final action but lost to the Pelicans in a super over. The Plate Final was declined by both teams as the heat of the day became a little too much! Beers & shade sounded much more appealing.
SHEILAS – Plate Final. It’s fair to say the girls were below their best in 2026! They started the day with heavy defeats to the Emus & 6 & Out, however they bounced back against the Pelicans thanks to a favourable wheel spin where the men in yellow had to bat opposite handed. It would be there only win for the day as they went down to the Dingos in a close one to round out their pool games. They shared the Plate Shield with the Dingos as conditions deteriorated!
EMUS – Wooden Spoon Play Off. It reads worse than it was for the Emus who won the same amount of games as the Dingos, 6 & Out & Pelicans however lady luck wasn’t on their side! They started the day with a dominant win over the Sheilas before an arse kicking from the Wombats brought them back down to earth. Defeat to the Brumbies followed, however they were able to finish their pool games with a win over the Victas which saw them finish with 2 wins and 2 losses and a shot at Semi-Finals. They lost a super over play-off to 6 & Out which saw them relegated to the bottom 4. The Dingos and Emus then needed to be split somehow to work out the bottom placed finisher in Pool A, the Emus lost a wheel spin and were sent to the Wooden Spoon match against the Victas. Conditions worsened as mentioned previously and the bar called so this match didn’t go ahead!
VICTAS – Wooden Spooners! The Victas were back to their old tricks with a luckless day at the MCG. They tied with the Dingos first up however they were no match in the boat race, this was followed up with losses to the Pelicans, 6 & Out & Emus in the pool of death and saw them finish 0 from 4 in the pool games and the bottom seeded team. With no Wooden Spoon fixture taking place it feels right to award them with the Spoon after a winless day! Don’t fret though, they’ll be back bigger and better in 27!
