Wonderful Chris first came into our Pancare office early in 2018, having been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in November 2017 – he was passionate about supporting the cause and raising funds and awareness.
His Dad, Geoff had the following words to say in a recent interview with Pancare supporters Bowls Victoria: “Chris certainly became totally dedicated to the cause, knowing the support that Pancare provides to pancreatic cancer patients, their families and to the raising of awareness and funds etc for support and research. He knew it was too late for him to benefit, but he was dedicated to the cause and his wish was to help others in need, both in present and the future. The whole family has therefore become dedicated to the cause.”
A truly selfless and giving man, Chris almost took his diagnosis ‘for the team’ - commenting to one friend that “based on statistics, if it wasn’t me, it would be one of my team mates, family or friends and there’s no way I’d want any of them to go through this”.
A world-class bowler, active and passionate Bowls Club member and fundraiser at heart, Bear’s Big Day Out was launched in April 2018, a celebration of life, bowls, food, and friendship, hosted across both St Kilda Bowls Club and Melbourne Bowls Club. A popular event that now runs every year (apart from 2020).
Chris sadly passed on 11/09/2018, less than one year after diagnosis but left behind an incredible legacy and impassioned network of friends, family, and the wider bowls community.
Chris’ brother Michael and his partner Monika have become much loved and active members of our Pancare family, leading the ‘Doing it for Bear’ campaign at Pancare events, raising vital funds and awareness with the unwavering support of family, friends and the amazing bowling community.
