BRENDAN FITZGERALD QUARTET recreates the world of iconic jazz musician Dave Brubeck, his genius, his relationships, his humanity and popular acclaim. In 1959, Dave Brubeck Quartet’s album, ‘Time Out’ became the first platinum jazz recording while ‘Take Five’, remains the highest-selling jazz instrumental of all time. Together with ‘Blue Rondo a la Turk’, these works are identified as seminal and r
evolutionary expressions of a new era in music. Brendan narrates Brubeck’s story at the piano together with a projected montage of images from his life and times. He also channels Jimmy Lyons, a jazz radio presenter who helped launch Dave’s career. Peter Raidel, accomplished saxophonist, plays the elegant music of Paul Desmond, Brubeck’s creative ally and sometime adversary. This ensemble comprises outstanding musicians who have performed widely in Australia, Europe and Asia. Steve Todd, drums and Quinton Dunne, double bass, join Brendan Fitzgerald Quartet for this unique music event.
2023 saw a series of concerts in the Adelaide Fringe Festival at Brighton Concert Hall on 17th and 18th February. This is now to be followed with performances on 27th May and 3rd June at Diverse-City, 116 Grote Street, Adelaide, in the Cabaret Fringe Festival. We are then seeking to tour the production to Perth and other interstate venues later this year.
