The event format changes every year normally.
£600+ raised in 2019 (solo walk), £1400+ raised in 2016 (team), £1400+ raised in 2015 (team) and £1600+ raised in 2014 (team). Well we have had a 24hr relay around a seaside lake, another 24hrs of individual laps around the same seaside lake, 35 miles seaside pier to seaside pier and for 2019 we had a solo effort of 70 miles on foot to Blackpool and ba
ck for World Mental Health day as a solo effort. Previous history:
Oct 2019
I have pretty much handed over the 24hrs around the Southport Marine lake format over to the Bliss Runners who have used it as their fundraiser for the last two years 2018 and 2019, and I have taken part in both and helped organize where possible. Therefore I undertook my own solo challenge in 2019 to hike to Blackpool and back from Southport within 24hrs to raise funds for The Young Minds Trust on World Mental Health Day on the 10th of October. This enabled me to be free of organizing a team fundraising event and to be solely responsible for myself for the day with no pressures other than my own. I set off at midnight and the very start of World Mental Health Day and was back in Southport 20.5 hrs later as I haedly took any rests. I managed to raise over £600+ and am very thanful for the supporters who donated, and to those that came down and hiked with me occasionally on what was a very cold, wet and blustery day. For 2016 the 'Seaside24' event reverted back to it's 24hr challenge status. We ran around the Marine Lake in Southport for 24 hours from Midday Saturday 3rd Sept until midday Sunday 4th Sept. To make it more difficult than our first year when we ran it in relay form with one runner running around at a time, all the runners ran as solo or duo runners trying to do as many individual laps as they could in the 24hrs. It was a far more challenging event than the first year, and we saw some of the runners running more miles in a day than they had ever done before, several runners ran at least 50 miles. Thanks to all your support we raised over £1400+ inc gift aid for our 3 nominated charities THHN - Torbay Holiday Helpers Network CLF - Community Link foundation and MAMA Academy. October 2015:
in 2015 the Seaside24 event returned for another difficult challenge, not content with running around the same seaside lake for 24 hrs in 2014 we decided to go further a field. We kept with the seaside theme and decided to involve the good old classic the `Seaside pier`. We ran an Ultra Marathon distance of 35 miles, from Blackpool South Pier to Southport Pier on October 11th 2015. The run this year was for several charities one from the previous year CHUF- Childrens Heart Unit Fund, and a new charity for us the THHN- Torbay Holiday Helpers Network. We raised just over £1400 in 2015 for our two selected charities CHUF and THHN. The first year, Aug 2014:
My name is Les Jackson and I am the creator and organizer of the Seaside24 fundraising event and one of the runners who also runs the events. The 2014 Seaside 24HR relay ran from 10pm Saturday 30th August to 10pm Sunday 31st August 2014. I set up the event to raise money for two charities. The first charity was the Community Link Foundation who raise funds for good causes in Southport and the surrounding area. http://www.clfoundation.co.uk/index.php
The second charity was and still is one very close to our heart as this particular charity raises money for a children's heart unit in the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle. This charity is called CHUF (Children's Heart Unit Fund). We raised money for this particular charity because they gave several life saving operations to a newborn baby of one of our valued staff and we felt we wanted to give some thing in return. http://www.chuf.org.uk/
We ran roughly a 3 mile loop around the Marine Lake Southport non stop night and day from 10pm on Sat 30th Aug to 10pm Sun 31st Aug 2014. We had one runner out at a time plus a support cyclist or running buddy when required to encourage the runners and we managed over 50 laps. We where based at the ground floor lobby and coffee shop of the Ramada Plaza Hotel Southport during the challenge who pulled out all the stops supporting our runners. We managed to raise a little over £1600 by the end of the 24 hours with donations on the day as well, a very big thank you to everyone who ran, supported and donated to the cause.
