Hi everyone, we did it again yesterday with another successful WIN Current Cruiser, and somehow the weather gods did their thing with the sun turning up and the wind dropping off (the wind is howling today). With record numbers of entries the beach was alive with entrants and spectators with beach accessories, lots of colour, happiness and good vibe energy. We started the day with a flyover from the LSV Westpac helicopter at the start of the Family Float and then into the 500m and 1500m swims respectively.
Congratulations to all swimmers, in particular place getters as well as a special shout out to first time salt water swimmers. In the 1500m swim, the fastest female was Andrea Schloegl (16:31) and Mike Gowan (13:50) the fastest male - both in the 50-59 age category. All times are available on the TTomato Timingwebsite. An interesting fact, the 2 fastest swimmers on the day were quicker than the current world record for 1500m.
Thank you to everyone who made the day happen, on the day and in preparation - the WWaratah Beach SLSCwater safety and first aid teams and helpers at the Inlet, those who stayed back to patrol the surf beach, race starters, the Waratah Marine Search and Rescue team for setting and maintaining the course, the race-pack and registration team, all of those who pitched in and helped on the day, Sam and Poppy from TTomato Timingfor joining us and making the day work and Tim from AXIS films for the taking the footage and preparing our television commercial broadcast by the WIN Network.
And a special thank you to all of our sponsors for supporting us and helping us raise a record amount for the Waratah Beach Surf Life Saving Club. These funds will contribute to replacing and maintaining our safety and training equipment and conducting important training for our volunteer lifesavers.
If you have any photos you would like to share, please add to this post. Finally, thank you everyone - such a special day :)
