Hi everyone, we did it again yesterday with another successful WIN Current Cruiser, and somehow the weather gods did their thing with the sun turning up and the wind dropping off (the wind is howling today). With record numbers of entries the beach was alive with entrants and spectators with beach accessories, lots of colour, happiness and good vibe energy. We started the day with a flyover from the LSV Westpac helicopter at the start of the Family Float and then into the 500m and 1500m swims respectively.

Congratulations to all swimmers, in particular place getters as well as a special shout out to first time salt water swimmers. In the 1500m swim, the fastest female was Andrea Schloegl (16:31) and Mike Gowan (13:50) the fastest male - both in the 50-59 age category. All times are available on the TTomato Timingwebsite. An interesting fact, the 2 fastest swimmers on the day were quicker than the current world record for 1500m.

Thank you to everyone who made the day happen, on the day and in preparation - the WWaratah Beach SLSCwater safety and first aid teams and helpers at the Inlet, those who stayed back to patrol the surf beach, race starters, the Waratah Marine Search and Rescue team for setting and maintaining the course, the race-pack and registration team, all of those who pitched in and helped on the day, Sam and Poppy from TTomato Timingfor joining us and making the day work and Tim from AXIS films for the taking the footage and preparing our television commercial broadcast by the WIN Network.

And a special thank you to all of our sponsors for supporting us and helping us raise a record amount for the Waratah Beach Surf Life Saving Club. These funds will contribute to replacing and maintaining our safety and training equipment and conducting important training for our volunteer lifesavers.

If you have any photos you would like to share, please add to this post. Finally, thank you everyone - such a special day :)

Hi Current Cruisers, I just checked the tides to confirm times, here is the running sheet. Depending on tide behaviour, times may push back a little. The Inlet will be coming off full tide and as the tide recedes the parking area will increase, the incoming tide is not until after the event so plenty of time to get cars out. For those at Sandy Point in the morning to collect packs inside the clubhouse (recommended), I checked with Taya and Michael and coffee and donuts will be available in front of the general store/surf school and Paddy at the General Store is ready for an influx. Have a great new years eve tonight and I look forward to seeing you tomorrow.

Enjoy the videos and music you love, upload original content, and share it all with friends, family, and the world on YouTube.

WIN Current Cruiser 2026 Update
The temperature and skies look great for Thursday's swim but the wind will be a moderate easterly. This will create chop (breath on your right) and push swimmers and floaters towards the shore. As usual we have a strong contingent of Waratah Beach SLSC lifesavers in the water to monitor all competitors. Entries are coming along well and again, a massive thank you to our sponsors (check the website).

Shallow Inlet tides are 90-120 mins later than Waratah Bay,I am monitoring today and tomorrow and will update with any changes to timings - Registration desk and pack collection at the clubhouse 9:30-11:00am then at 12:30pm at Shallow Inlet/Sandy Point for the Family Float followed by 500m and 1500m events. NOTE - if there is a chance of bringing events forward I will but no more than 30mins. There is a fee for parking at Shallow Inlet, all money goes to the Foreshore Committee, and as the tide goes out the parking area will increase - don't arrive too early. There is free parking at the high tide car park.

When walking back from the end of your swim, please keep close to the shore and away from the dunes as this is home to hooded plovers.

Today at the Valuing Volunteers Event held at LSV Port Melbourne, as part of Life Saving Victoriaโ€™s annual National Volunteer Week celebrations, we were proud to see Paul Minahan and Tim Barbour recognised with the Emergency Capability and Response Award. ๐Ÿ‘

Although Tim was unable to attend in person, Paul proudly represented MSAR and used the opportunity to catch up with Waratah Beach SLSC Life Member Max Collins.

On behalf of everyone at Waratah Beach SLSC, we extend our enormous thanks and heartfelt congratulations to both Paul and Tim for their outstanding contributions to not only MSAR but the Club more broadly. Your dedication and service exemplify the strength, skill and community spirit of our Club. ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’›
