ICYMI: Autumn at the Shed is looking pretty juicy 🍊

All kicks off this weekend with Blind Boy Brewing's first Saturday pop-up, feat. the 'Brewing Blind' premiere screening, live music, food from our fave falafel-slingers Ta'ameya, and plenty of beer.

And wait until you see May 👀

We're proud to be the training ground for this program kicking off very soon.

If you or someone you know has been out of work for a while or facing a few obstacles to employment, the Food Futures For All program from Green Fox Studio can open doors. Part time, fees covered, and you'll walk away with Certificate II in Hospitality, your RSA, coffee-making skills and more.

Applying is super quick, groups are small (not intimidating) and there are still spots available:

Anywhere Festival Brisbane line-up is live - and we're on it!
We'll be home to two awesome immersive theatre shows throughout May - the hilarious Good Bad Cop by Launch Pad (early bird tix available until tomorrow night) and the eerie, eclectic cabaret of Shoggoth's Old Peculiar

As a hub that exists to facilitate and bolster shorter supply chains and our local food system, you can probably imagine we've got a lot of thoughts on all of... this (*gestures wildly at current affairs*).

To kick things off - one of our Careholders, Kimberley Reis, has written a great piece for The Conversation Australia + NZ on how you can use a place-based approach to create a 'back-up plan' in times of food and fuel crunches (and what the government needs to do for longer term community resilience and security)

Schooners and screenings: short doco 'Brewing Blind' is premiering at the Shed this April! 📽️🍻

Produced by Matt Williams Photo + Video, it shares the story of Blind Boy Brewing - how Jacob came to be running a brewery and smashing stereotypes of what it means to be blind. It's a beauty of a 12 minute watch, feat. everything from his diagnosis, how he came to be working with Beau, his 'speakeasy' hobby phase, opening up shop at the Shed and beyond.

🍺Blind Boy will be extending their usual hours to open Saturdays 11, 18 and 25th of April
🎶Screenings at 4pm and 6pm on those days, with live music at 2:30pm and 4:30pm
🥙Food from the legends at Ta'ameya and Shed bar open for wines & other drinks.

Things can feel heavy right now - community, connection and finding room for joy are essential for building resilience.

Seeds of Hope is a gathering for the people who care about sustainability, climate, food systems and community - time for a dance, a drink and a chat, creating space for ideas, friendships, and collaborations to grow.

Organised by People For Nature and Climate Crew, supported by Food Connect Shed.

2-5pm, Sunday 26 April.
Tickets are free (donations optional), but booking is appreciated so we can get an idea of numbers!

Gross-pond collaboration 🇬🇧 🌾 We recently had a visit from Amy from , coming to check out and our wider food hub.

As we work on some new projects (and Food Connect Foundation support other communities to establish their own food hubs) it's always so exciting and valuable to hear about how others are doing it.

Nottingham Mill Co-op is a hub/incubator for small food businesses specialising in grain and cereal-based foods (hello, pasta and micro-bakers we wish we could lick through the screen), and also have their own mill. Like us, they're passionate about the importance (and magic) of whole, stoneground flour, community scale milling (vs the industrial/commodity white flour you find at the shops) and supporting a local grain economy.

Check out their new substack here (you might see a familiar face soon): https://nottinghammillcoop.substack.com/
