RESPECT • On Monday I attended a meeting. I was treated in a way that is entirely unacceptable and I feel it is well and truly time to draw a line in the sand, for all levels of government.
Many excuse poor behaviour in this realm by calling it “politics”. However, there is a difference between politics and behaviour that is rude, disrespectful, belittling, threatening, intimidating, bullying and harassing.
Over the last 2 years, I have seen conduct unlike any I have come across, and I am saying that as a person who spent a decade in the QPS and worked out on the road.
This kind of behaviour impacts productivity and wastes time that could be spent on other important issues.
As a ratepayer and a taxpayer, I know I deserve better. As an elected representative, I am disgusted and dismayed.
In a world full of increasing discord and poor examples, it is time that we collectively work to change the tide … And it does take work.
It is no good paying lip service to anti-bullying campaigns and domestic and family violence awareness unless we lead by example.
It doesn’t matter what colour shirt you wear or what position you hold - Hypocrisy is hypocrisy.
So, I am reigniting my hashtag and I am turning it into a project. I am doing this in my own time with the hope that it will be a call for improvement. I invite you to share and follow.
