The countdown is officially on for the 73rd Sydney Film Festival, returning from 3–14 June!

One of the highlights this year is the retrospective strand, Barbara Hammer: Radical Visibility. Curated by former Q***r Screen Festival Director Lisa Rose, this program celebrates the pioneering le***an and feminist icon who famously declared, “Touching another woman's body changed my life. It had to be shown.”

The retrospective offers a rare chance to explore 19 of Hammer's works, including the groundbreaking features NITRATE KISSES and HISTORY LESSONS, alongside two curated short film packages.

Huge congratulations to Lee Lai, who has just become the first-ever graphic novelist to win the Stella Prize for their masterful work, Cannon.

✨Lee is also the first non-binary and trans author to win the award in its 14-year history.

What a massive milestone for both graphic storytelling and gender-diverse voices in Australian literature. Now we look forward to seeing Cannon turn into an animation, perhaps.

Lee Lai's debut graphic novel, Stone Fruit, was longlisted for the Stella Prize in 2022. Four years on, she's won the prestigious award for her latest book, Cannon.
