Our Story
Hello there! Salams and peace be with you. Our story begins with an “accidental” meeting with a person who came from a different world from me. As a Muslim woman, of Eurasian heritage, growing up in Australia, I had chosen to cover my hair in what we call “hijab” from the age of 12. My new friend, was an older gentleman, a senior government bureaucrat, who had travelled widely as part of his work, to many Asian and Middle Eastern countries. It deeply appreciated modest fashion as being vibrant and elegant.
He asked me, “Why couldn’t hijab or modest fashion become part of the mainstream?” And I agreed that it could, if there were more options on the market. Also, these options could be inclusive of all men, women and children, who choose to dress more modestly, regardless of faith, culture of lifestyle choices.
That was almost two years ago. Soon thereafter, I had the privilege of helping create the first Multicultural Runway in Australia at the Perth Fashion Festival, and about 6 months later, formally established Modest Fashion Australia (MFA), a platform to support and promote fashion designers, creatives and artists in the industry.
Then, we decided to launch Secret Sky, the retail arm of MFA, in order to provide to the market some beautiful, practical and unique products that would both meet the needs of modest fashion consumers, as well as reflect the diverse and sophisticated tastes for high quality goods.
